Foreword: Recreational fishery is the organic combination of fishery production in the primary industry and tourism and leisure in the tertiary industry, and is an important part of the waterfront leisure industry. At present, coastal countries in the world are actively developing recreational fisheries and promoting the development of local tourism. The author collects various literature on recreational fisheries and reports on the development status of recreational fisheries in various countries, re-edits and organizes them, and introduces them to colleagues in the form of a series of articles, the purpose of which is to promote the continuous development of the continental waterfront leisure industry.
I. Overview of Recreational Fisheries in Korea
South Korea is rich in marine resources on three sides and has more than 3,000 large and small islands. South Korea's territorial waters meet the waters of the western Pacific Ocean, due to the alternating cold and warm currents in the sea area, it is very suitable for the survival and reproduction of fish, so fishery resources are rich and diverse, and it has a unique environment for the development of recreational fisheries.
Located at the southernmost tip of the Korean Peninsula, Jeju Island in South Korea is the "Hawaii" of South Korea with its mysterious natural landscapes and inherent traditional culture. There are flowers, tea, sea breezes, beach whispers, citrus sweets and seafood feasts! Fish is plentiful and fun. The fish caught here are small fish that grow naturally in the Pacific waters, and on the shore there are fishermen who pick the thorns, slice the fish meat, and dip it in mustard hot sauce, which is a sashimi, which tastes great.
Known as the virgin of East Asian sea fishing, the Korean Catalpa Islands, originally just a small island group with a population of less than 10,000 under the jurisdiction of Jeju Province, which makes a living from fishing, has derived South Korea's sea fishing industry since the first sea fishing competition was held in 1983, and has led to the development of service industries such as catering and hotels and the real estate industry.
South Korea's small size, dense population, lack of agricultural products, and the geographical location of the peninsula countries make South Korea provide a very favorable prerequisite for the development and growth of the fishery, which also lays a solid foundation for the expansion of the Korean fishing tackle market. Fishing is a traditional activity in Korea and the most popular outdoor leisure sport, and the development of fishing tackle in Korea has been showing a steady upward trend.
South Korea has issued a series of management regulations for the development of its recreational fisheries: Although Article 18 of the Korean Aquatic Resources Management Law allows non-fishery practitioners to capture aquatic resources, Article 6 of the Law clearly defines several means of capture. The methods allowed are: casting nets, pocket nets, copying nets, cages, fishing rods, fish cages, hooks, etc. Harpoons and diving equipment not included in the permitted methods cannot be used for fishing.
Therefore, fishing with an unauthorized harpoon is a violation of the Aquatic Resources Management Act. According to Article 65 of the Act, fishing with unauthorized tools such as harpoons is punishable by a fine of up to 10 million won. In addition to fishing at sea, fishing in inland rivers and lakes is also not allowed to fish with harpoons under the Surface Fisheries Act.
Second, an overview of the development of the fishing tackle industry in South Korea
As we all know, the Korean fishing tackle industry developed earlier, and in the early 1980s, Korean fishing tackle has swept the world. Fishing has always been a traditional activity in Korea, but also a popular outdoor leisure sport, the development of fishing tackle in Korea has been showing a steady upward trend.
