Should Israeli foreign policy focus on ethical issues? Recently, the Israel Jewish People's Policy Institute (JPPI) conducted a poll of Jews to gather their views on the nature of the Jewish nation-state and the direction of Israel's foreign policy.

The survey results show that the vast majority of Israeli Jews consider Israel to be a moral state and the Israel Defense Forces to be a moral army. Most people believe that in foreign and defense policy, a balance of interests and ethics must be considered. In actual foreign policy, however, the more general trend is to prioritize the consideration of interests over morality.

From the first day of his term of office, Israeli Foreign Minister Yar Rapid is said to have tried to break with past policies once and for all, hoping to base Israeli policies on a moral footing. But the actual results were less than satisfactory.
