Canadian e-bike company Biktrix has unveiled a new e-bike equipped with the most powerful electric motor to date. The Juggernaut XD features a Biktrix XD dual-drive system designed to handle the forces of a 2,000W motor without tearing itself to pieces.
As Electrork reports, most e-bikes rely on ordinary bike parts to transfer power from the motor to the rear wheels. This can lead to faster wear, including broken chains and broken derailleurs, which will soon end your fun.
Even in the best of circumstances, e-bikes often require more frequent replacement of parts than traditional bikes – even if you don't notice it. As Julian Thrasher, Shimano's head of training, said in an interview with TechRadar last year, a bike's motors can work harder to compensate for wear and tear on the drivetrain, which means you can't tell the difference, but the battery will drain faster. If the wear becomes severe and the chain jumps, you may fall off the bike.
Reinforced chains and sprockets
To prevent this from happening, Biktrix has developed a system that uses a standard bike kit to handle traditional pedaling, with a second reinforced chain and thick alloy sprockets to provide power assist. The second drive unit is capable of withstanding 10 times the force of a normal chain and sprocket – which is important for a bike capable of delivering 2,000W of power.
You can now book the Juggernaut XD in the US and Canada for $4,999 (about £3,700/AUD 7,000) for an early bird price. Shipments are expected to begin in mid-2022 and will retail at $5,999 (approximately £4,500 / AU$8,300) at general sale.
