Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio was born in 1974 in Los Angeles, California. His mother was a legal secretary and his father was an underground comic book writer, publisher, and comic book dealer. His parents met in college and moved to Los Angeles after graduation. Little Plum has been Catholic since childhood.

Little Plum is called Leonardo because when his pregnant mother was viewing a painting by Leonardo da Vinci at the Uffizi Museum in Florence, Italy, Leonardo kicked his mother in the stomach for the first time.

Little Plum's parents separated when he was one year old; They initially agreed to live next door so that Little Plum would not lose his father's company in his life. However, Little Plum and his mother later moved to multiple neighborhoods in Los Angeles, such as Echo Park and Los Ferris, and his mother also worked several jobs. He attended Seed Elementary School and later went to John Marshall High School a few blocks away, after which he spent four years at the Rich Learning Center in Los Angeles.

Little Plum said he hated public schools and often asked his mom to take him to auditions to improve their financial situation. In his third year of high school, he dropped out of school and eventually received a certificate of equality from a regular high school. He hadn't read a single book since high school.

DiCaprio once said that his career choice as a child was to become a marine biologist or actor, but he ultimately chose the latter because he liked to imitate characters and people. At the age of two, he took the stage at a festival, the Rise Dance, and the cheers of the audience sparked his interest in acting. When his half-brother made $50,000 for a TV commercial, DiCaprio was fascinated by it and decided to become an actor.

Acting career

In 1979, 5-year-old Little Plum was kicked off the set of the children's television series Romper Room because he was too troublemaker. At the age of 14, he began shooting commercials for Mattel's Matchbox cars, which he considered his first role, and later shot commercials for Kraft Foods, Bubble Yum, and Apple Jacks. In 1989, he played two episodes of Glenn in the TV series The New Greyhound.

At the beginning of his career, DiCaprio had a hard time finding an agent. One agent suggested he change his name to Lenny Williams to attract an American audience, but he refused. Even after 100 auditions, he was unemployed for a year and a half. Disappointed by this, he initially decided to quit show business, but his father encouraged him not to give up, and he needed money to support his mother.

By the early 1990s, he began performing regularly on television, first as a character in the pilot drama The Outsider (1990) and then as young Mason Cabourg in the soap opera Santa Barbara (1990). That year, DiCaprio starred in Parenthood, a TV series based on a successful comedy film of the same name.

His work earned him two nominations at the 12th Youth Film Awards – Best Actor in a Daytime Series in Santa Barbara and Best Actor in a New Drama Series in Parenthood. DiCaprio is also a star contestant on the children's game show Happy House, where he performs a number of stunts, including catching fish in a small pool with only his teeth.
