The US media rendered "Putin's support rate hit a new low in 20 years", netizens mocked: only Westerners participate in the investigation, serious?

"After Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of neighboring Ukraine, his approval rating fell to a 20-year low. ”

Such a report came from the US media "Newsweek" on June 23, local time. However, a closer look at the report reveals that this support score did not come from Russia, but from the Pew Research Center's survey of 18 countries, most of which are developed countries in the United States and the West, with the exception of Malaysia.

In this regard, some Twitter netizens ridiculed this report on Putin's poll: "Seriously? The headline of the article said that "Putin's approval rating hit a new low in 20 years", and it turned out that only Westerners participated in the polls. ”

Newsweek said the survey, published on the 22nd, was conducted from mid-February to mid-May this year for more than 23,000 adults in 18 countries, including the United States, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Israel, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.

The survey found that Russian President Vladimir Putin has become the world's least popular leader, and Malaysia is the only country where a majority of respondents have expressed trust in Putin.

Ninety percent of those surveyed said they lacked trust in Putin 'doing the right thing" in international affairs, while nearly eighty percent (78 percent) said they had absolutely no trust in the Russian leader.

The Pew Research Center said Putin's approval ratings have been declining in many countries around the world over the past 20 years, but during this year's Russian-Ukrainian conflict, his support reached a "record low" among all countries with this trend. The center said Putin's approval ratings in most of these countries have slipped by double digits.

Polls also found that those who support their country's right-wing populist parties are more likely to express confidence in Putin's actions. For example, more than half (55 percent) of Greeks who have a favorable view of the Greek Solution party say they trust Putin's ability to handle international affairs.

"Newsweek" did not forget to emphasize and play in the report that Putin's global support has plummeted at a time when he has ordered the Russian army to "fully invade" Ukraine for four months, and now the Russian army has stepped up its offensive in the Donbass region of Udong in an attempt to "fully occupy" the region.

However, the 18 countries covered in the poll are almost all Western developed countries, the only country that is somewhat "alternative" Malaysia, and it happens to be the only country where the majority of respondents "look positively" at Putin. What is Putin's approval rating inside Russia? Neither the Pew Research Center's investigation nor newsweek's reporting mentioned it.

Some Twitter netizens forwarded the link to the newsweek article and wrote sarcastically: "Is this serious? They named the article 'Vladimir Putin's approval rating hit a 20-year low,' but when you read it, you'll find that only people from western countries participated in the polls. At the same time, he also matched his face with a crying and smiling expression.

What is even more embarrassing is that even ordinary netizens have seen that there are "hard wounds" in this report, but "Newsweek" had to "humiliate themselves" at the end of the article, saying that it had contacted the Russian Foreign Ministry for comment.

In fact, after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Putin's support at home has been as high as more than 80%. The Russian Satellite News Agency reported on April 23 that the results of a poll conducted by the Russian polling agency "All-Russian Center for Social Opinion Research" showed that 80.7% of Russians expressed confidence in Putin, and 78.4% of Russian citizens expressed satisfaction with his governance.

In contrast, US President Joe Biden, a number of poll data during this period show that his approval rating is constantly declining, and it has repeatedly reached a new low.

According to a May Poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Studies, only 39 percent of U.S. adults agree with Biden's performance in power, a drop from a very negative approval rating last month. The newly completed Reuters/Ipsos poll also shows that Biden's public approval rating is now 39%, falling for the third consecutive week, close to the lowest level in his presidency, and 56% of Americans disagree with Biden's performance in power.
