Mariupol, destroyed in the fighting

Journalists and photographers from Russia photographed Mariupol's post-war scene. The road is relatively safe but very broken. I saw a lot of things: a blown-up bridge and abandoned equipment.

Mariupol is now a completely different world. It feels like it should be a post-apocalyptic scene. But the inhabitants of Mariupol are in good spirits, they are not broken, they are trying to return to a peaceful life. People swept away debris throughout the neighborhood together.

Today, the inhabitants of Mariupol have almost no electricity, but the lights are on in schools, hospitals and administrative buildings. There was no water in the tap, so people took a bath in the street, basked in the sun in warm water basins, and then bathed. People began cooking on fires and making stoves out of bricks.

The reporter talked with the tenants of one of the apartment buildings and learned that there were about thirty people who had not left. People sat in the same basement for a month and a half and the relationship became very friendly. Everyone knows each other, and now they see themselves as a family.

"What money?" At the entrance of the city, the reporter saw an old woman in her eighties, who came over and said, "Sir, do you have anything to eat?" Unfortunately, the reporter did not bring any food. He wanted to give the old woman money, but she looked at the reporter with a puzzled face and said, "What money?" I want bread," the photojournalist said.

In Mariupol, the humanitarian situation remains very difficult, despite no more fighting. Only a few shops are open. One of the owners handed out some simple free food to people, but now she said she couldn't do that anymore because she needed to feed herself.

There is almost no transportation in the city. Cars are rare, but city buses are starting to work, and you never know when the next car will come by.
