According to British media reports on June 13, the 89-year-old farmer hid his wife's body in a septic tank and "escaped murder for 40 years." A former farmer is accused of throwing his wife's body into an evolutionary cesspool in the event of a "long-term extramarital affair."
On the same day, Worcester Criminal Court in the United Kingdom heard testimony from David Venables, 89, who had been "at large" for nearly 40 years. He allegedly killed the dignified Brenda Venables and then hid her body in a septic tank not far from their home in Worcestershire.
Mrs. Venables' body was found 37 years after she disappeared in 1982 in a septic tank that was once "rough", overgrown and "hidden".
Prosecutor Michael Burrows QC claimed that David Venabours had maintained an intermittent and improper relationship with his mother's former caregiver, Lorraine Styles, prior to his wife's disappearance.
Barros said David Venables, then 49, killed his wife, 48, and dumped her body in a septic tank on a farm near Kempsey, where the couple had lived since 1961.
Barros added: "The truth is that David Venables killed her. He wanted her to leave because he wanted to resume a long-term relationship with another woman. He knew the location of the septic tank was hidden, so her body was hidden here."
For nearly 40 years, it was a perfect place that allowed him to escape murder. The jury learned that David Venables' affair with Ms. Lorraine Stiles began around 1967 and lasted for some time.
It wasn't until 1981, when Ms. Lorraine Stiles again doubted whether David Venables' feelings for her were sincere, that David Venables expressed that he would be able to be with her forever during that Christmas and New Year's period — months before his wife had disappeared.
The lady believed the sweet words that Mr. David Venables had said to her and ended her relationship with another man.
On May 4, 1982, David Venables reported to Worcester Police Station that his wife was missing. Transcripts at the time show that David Venables claimed that he woke up to find his wife missing, and that he knew nothing of what had happened to her, only that his wife had been depressed all the time. The local police also did not find any trace of Mrs. Venables in the ensuing investigation.
In 2019, David Venables had sold the farm to his nephew, and in July of that year, workers found bones including a human skull while cleaning up a septic tank. DNA tests confirmed that this was Mrs. Venables.
But lawyer David Venables said it was probably her suicide because she suffered from depression. Prosecutors, however, said that if Brenda Venables committed suicide by climbing the evolutionary cesspool and she somehow removed the heavy lid, how did she put it back in place? And there are no signs of interference around?
In response, lawyer David Venables also made another defense, saying whether it was his wife who happened to be out of the house, someone else attacked and killed her, and then hid her body in a septic tank, which was hidden, so no one knew.
Prosecutors say that if Brenda Venables walked out of their house that night and their farm at the time was largely invisible during the day, how could anyone be there at night? This is ridiculous.
David Venables, who is on bail, has been sitting in court wearing headphones, watching all the proceedings. He categorically denies murdering his wife between 2 May and 5 May 1982. The case has been going on for several weeks now, but it is still continuing.
