Do you know what kind of animal in the world, although it has no teeth, can it eat more than 9,000 ants in a day?
The answer is the Southern Anteaters! Also known as the small anteaters, native to South America, it is an arboreal relative of the anteaters. The meat of the large anteater was edible, but due to its ease of catching, its number was greatly reduced, and it was listed as a protected animal in the world in the 1970s. Small anteaters and pygmy anteaters live entirely or partially arboreal life, and they are on the verge of extinction as a large number of virgin forests in the Americas disappear.
Recently, the Roger Williams Zoo in Rhode Island announced the birth of a baby anteater on its social media.
According to the post, the little guy doesn't have a name yet, and the animal stewards and veterinary team will continue to monitor them, conducting daily health checks to ensure healthy growth.

Roger Williams Zoo isn't the only one born recently. On May 5, a rare red wolf cub was born.
Its parents are 6-year-old Brave and 7-year-old Diego. It was their first successful birth and the first red wolf cub to be born at the zoo since 2005.
The red wolf was listed as extinct in the wild in 1980. Through a collaboration between the FBI and zoo's Red Wolf Species Survival Program, the last 14 remaining wild red wolves were brought into the zoo to establish a captive breeding program. Without a zoo, red wolves would be extinct in the wild.
According to Amy Roberts, director of the zoo's program, there are now about 23 red wolves left in the wild. Therefore, the birth of every young wolf is crucial to the survival of the species.
Zoo staff monitor newborn pups and mothers through infrared cameras in their nests to ensure their health.
In addition to the little anteaters and red wolves, the Roger Williams Zoo has many other adorable animals.
