To increase employment and promote and stabilize the employment of local unemployed residents, the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government launched the Temporary Subsidy Scheme to Encourage Employers to Hire Local Unemployed Residents During the Epidemic Period from 1 June to 31 August this year. In order to enable the community to have a deeper understanding of the Subsidy Scheme, the Labour Bureau will hold special sessions and public briefings for people from different sectors to introduce the contents of the Scheme in depth.

The Labour Bureau has recently taken the initiative to contact different organizations and invited them to participate in the seminar. Following the first special lecture held to the Macao Federation of Trade Unions on the 2nd of this month, a special lecture meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held to the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Macao on the 6th of this month. About 80 people attended the seminar, including Ma Zhiyi, Chairman of the Macau Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Yu Jianchu, Wong Kwok Seng, Ho Pei Fen, Xu Tat Ming, Chan Ze Wu, Vice Presidents, Wong Chi Hung, Secretary for Labour Affairs, and Chen Yuantong and Chen Junyu, Deputy Directors.

The explanation will help the community understand the content of the plan

At the meeting, labour bureau staff introduced the applicants, application conditions and specific obligations of employers receiving subsidies under the Subsidy Scheme, including: maintaining the number of local employees in the first 6 months after the recruitment of additional employees, maintaining the employment relationship with the additional employees for not less than 12 months, and maintaining the monthly basic remuneration of the additional employees for the first 12 months of not less than MOP6,656, and not negotiating unpaid leave with them.

If the employer does not comply with the relevant obligations, or if the benefit is granted by illegal means such as providing false information, the benefit shall be returned in whole or in part and shall be liable if any.

Two public briefings were held this month

The Labour Bureau will organise two public briefing sessions at 7:00 p.m. on 8 June (Wednesday) and 3:00 p.m. on 11 June (Saturday) at the Labour Affairs Bureau Headquarters (basement of Advanced Plaza, 221-279 Avenida Dr. Maru, Macau).
