The 59-metre luxury motor yacht IDOL collided with the Autostrada Azzurra Bridge in the Pisa Canal in Italy on May 31.
The accident occurred yesterday (Tuesday, May 31) at 11 a.m. local time, when the yacht tried to sail over the Autostrada Azzurra Bridge over the Pisa Canal. Unfortunately, it crashed into a bridge that is usually 11.8 meters above sea level at low tide. Witnesses said the yacht tried to pass at high tide.
The IDOL was recently refitted at the Seven Stars shipyard in Pisa, including repainting and modifications to the stern and bow, including the addition of a helipad.
It is reported that the collision accident occurred on the way for the yacht to leave the conversion site for open water, when she was being operated by a tugboat. The location of the conversion facility means that the yacht must sail along the Pisa Canal to enter the sea.
The "IDOL" is now in Livorno and is known to have suffered severe damage in the collision.
Built in 2007 by Australia's Austal Shipyard and launched as "Outback", the "IDOL" was designed by Sam Sorgiovanni in her streamlined silhouette.
