As of May 21, three research teams from Portugal, Belgium, and the United States have released preliminary results on the genome sequences of viruses carried by infected people in recent Monkeypox outbreaks in many parts of the world. The DNA sequences of the three copies of monkeypox virus (MPXV) initially showed homology, belonging to the same mild West African strain, which is closely related to monkeypox viruses found in the UK, Singapore and Israel in 2018 and 2019.
