The League of Legends 2022 Mid-Season Championship is currently in full swing, but the representative team of the Vietnamese VCS Division, the SGB team, has not yet won the first victory in the confrontation stage. In fact, the SGB team was the runner-up team of the VCS Spring Tournament, and after winning the VCS Spring Finals, the champion team, the GAM team, did not represent the Vietnam Division this time MSI. They represented their country and participated in the 31st Southeast Asian Games League of Legends competition, and e-sports was also listed as an official event at the Southeast Asian Games.
On May 22, as the representative team of the Vietnam League of Legends, the GAM team defeated the Philippine team in the final and won the League of Legends project championship at the Southeast Asian Games!
The Southeast Asian Games is held every two years, and in 2019, league of legends was used as a competition item, and this year it was a new league of legends mobile game. Due to the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, the 31st Southeast Asian Games has been postponed from last year to this year. A total of six countries participated in the League of Legends program, with Vietnam, Malaysia and Laos in Group B and Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines in Group A.
Vietnam qualified 4-0 in Group B, Malaysia 2-2 and Laos 0-4. Group A was tied for first place in Singapore and the Philippines, with both sides having a 3-1 record, while Thailand were eliminated 0-4. The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stage, and the semi-finals and finals are both BO5 single round robin formats.
On the stage of the semi-finals, the Vietnamese team swept the Singapore team 3-0 with a clean and clean performance to complete the promotion. In the other half, the Philippines beat the Malaysian team 3-1. In the bronze medal battle, the Singapore team defeated the Malaysian team 3-1. As for the final stage, the Vietnamese team won the championship with a 3-0 record and easily defeated the Philippine team.
As a result, the GAM team won the League of Legends event for Vietnam with an unbeaten record of 10-0 in this competition. Their strength is a one-sided crush in this game, almost every game is ended in 20 minutes, and the third set of the final is also 19 minutes with the Canyon Pioneer to dismantle the family, the gap between the strength of the two sides is really too big.
It is worth mentioning that in the first matchday of the group stage on April 20, the GAM team played against the Laos team, they demolished the base crystal opposite at 14 minutes and 3 seconds, playing a 27-2 head-to-head match. Since the Southeast Asian Games is an official event for the calculation of medals and has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee, this match has also become the shortest-term match on the professional field, surpassing the match between IG and the SKT team that year.
The three teams that won the medal also received official awards on the stage after the game, and the players received gold, silver or bronze medals as a reward. The SOUTHEAST Asian Games ceremony was well done, and the event was not skipped because League of Legends was an e-sports event, and the players also received flowers and mascot toys. I hope that when the Hangzhou Asian Games are officially held, the players in the e-sports project will also get more respect.
The other three countries that reached the final four this time are actually professional players, and the Philippines is a WPE team, and their youth players were invited to participate in the KeSPA Cup last year. Singapore is the IMP team, Malaysia is the S9 team, these two teams have participated in the PCS Spring Tournament this year, but the IMP team is the eighth team, the S9 team is the tenth team, they are far less than the PSG team participating in the 2022 mid-season championship.
Although the GAM team easily abused the food at the Southeast Asian Games, if they played head-to-head with the PSG team, they might not be able to win smoothly. Although the GAM team beat the SGB team in the VCS Spring Tournament, the style of the VCS team is the ultimate offense, and the overall situation operation and line handling in the medium term are far inferior to the teams in the main division. Of course, we need to wait until the global finals in October to really understand the strength of the GAM teams and see if they can challenge the LCS and PCS divisions.
