Australia's first confirmed case of monkeypox appeared in Melbourne, infected by a man in his 30s who was confirmed to have returned from the UK.
Prior to the emergence of this confirmed case, Australia had already reported a suspected confirmed case in NSW.
This is a Sydney man in his 40s who recently travelled to Europe and has just returned to Sydney. After returning to Sydney, not only him, but also another person in the family became his close contact.
Both are currently in home isolation, and the NSW Ministry of Health is highly concerned about their situation. Now the suspected case is finally confirmed to be infected as well.
There is currently one confirmed case of monkeypox infection in Sydney and Melbourne, both returning from Europe.
So far, there has been no community transmission of monkeypox in Australia, but the reopening of quarantine in Belgium has also awakened Australia, and the virus needs to be more tightly controlled.

For countries in the Northern Hemisphere, the spread of monkeypox may increase after the summer months.
Monkeypox viruses are mainly transmitted to humans through wild animals such as rodents and primates.
