In 1991, the Soviet Union disintegrated into 15 states, and its influence spread to Yugoslavia, which at that time disintegrated into 5 countries: the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro), Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia.
In 2003, the Fryingist Union was renamed Serbia and Montenegro, or Serbia and Montenegro for short. Three years later, Montenegro also became independent, and Yugoslavia disintegrated into six countries.
So, after Yugoslavia was divided into six, which country is "the best mixed" today?
Let's start with Slovenia.
Slovenia covers an area of 20,300 square kilometers, about 1/4 of Chongqing, and has a population of only 2.09 million (October 2019), about 1/14 of Chongqing.
After Slovenia's independence from Yugoslavia, industrial output declined significantly, unemployment increased sharply, the economy was depressed, and strikes occurred from time to time.
However, with the completion of the process of private ownership, the country's transition period came to an end and economic conditions improved.
Then there's Serbia.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia inherited most of the territory of the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia disintegrated, and serbia inherited the mantle of about 88,400 square kilometers (including 10,900 square kilometers in Kosovo).
Serbia was subjected to United Nations economic sanctions for three years shortly after independence, coupled with the severe destruction of infrastructure during the war, resulting in enormous economic losses.
It was only after entering the 21st century that the economy began to improve, and the per capita GDP rose from $1160 in 2000 to 6557 euros in 2019. Serbia's economy is dominated by the service sector, and the tertiary sector is more developed.
The third is Montenegro.
With an area of about 13,800 square kilometers, Montenegro is the smallest of the six countries.
After Montenegro withdrew from the former Yugoslavia, its economy also declined due to factors such as war and economic sanctions.
It is only in recent years, due to the improvement of the external environment and the advancement of various internal economic reforms, that the economy has begun to gradually recover. Tourism and the aluminium industry are the mainstays of Montenegro's economy.
The fourth is Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose full name is "Bosnia and Herzegovina", covers an area of about 51,200 square kilometers and has a population of about 3.53 million (2013).
Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the poorer regions of the Federation during the Yugoslav period, and after independence, civil wars broke out and the economy was severely damaged.
In addition, the country's terrain is mainly mountainous, so agriculture and industry are not very developed.
The fifth is North Macedonia.
After the collapse of Yugoslavia, the name of The State of Macedonia was "Republic of Macedonia", but its name aroused strong opposition from Greece.
Two years later, Macedonia joined the United Nations, which changed its name to "The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia".
In 2019, Macedonia changed its name to "North Macedonia", and its land area is about 25,700 square kilometers.
After the independence of North Macedonia, there were constant conflicts and the national economy was also greatly affected. In recent years, with the improvement of the domestic and foreign environment and the advancement of various reform measures, the national economy has recovered.
The last, and at the same time the most comfortable of the six countries, Croatia.
Croatia has an area of about 56,600 square kilometers, and the coastline of Yugoslavia is mostly occupied by it, with thousands of islands and a coastline of about 1778 kilometers.
As a result, Croatia's food processing, shipbuilding, pharmaceutical and other industries rely on convenient seaport conditions to develop rapidly.
Croatia's unique marine landscape has also made it a tourist destination in the Mediterranean region.
In addition, after the collapse of Yugoslavia, many of these countries were mired in the quagmire of war, and although Croatia also participated, on the whole, it was not greatly affected.
Today, Croatia is both an EU and a NATO country, and it has made full use of its geographical advantages, so it has quickly become one of the developed countries in Eastern Europe.
