Located in the middle and northern part of the Ailao Mountain, the Xinping area of the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve is the area with the largest number and the most concentrated distribution of the West Black-crowned Gibbon population. Before 2010, there were more than 500 groups of Western Black-crowned Gibbons in this area, and earlier this year, the Reserve Authority opened a second survey of Western Black-crowned Gibbons.
In order to find out the "home base" of local rare animal and plant resources, in March this year, the Ailao Mountain Nature Reserve Management Bureau and relevant scientific research institutions jointly launched a comprehensive investigation of the population survey and forest ecosystem of the West Black-crowned Gibbon in the Xinping area. During the course of the survey, the staff clearly felt that the habitat of the western black-crowned gibbon had expanded, and the frequency of "encounters" had also increased.
Guo Bin, director of the Xinping Management and Conservation Bureau of The Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan, said: "The terrain of our reserve in the core area is more complicated, and personnel need people from outside to send materials to the core area. ”
After more than 2 months of in-depth investigation, more than 60 staff members of the Xinping Management and Conservation Bureau of Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve have collected data on gibbon populations in all reachable areas except the core area before this writing.
Guo Bin, director of the Xinping Pipe and Conservation Bureau of the Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan, said: "There are at least 154 groups of gibbons, because in 2010, the first round of gibbon surveys was conducted, and the number of gibbons in our Xinping area was more than 124 groups of 500, and now based on this conservative estimate, there are 30 more groups than the original." ”
Guo Bin introduced that gibbons are accustomed to living in small groups as a family unit, and due to the floating nature of the number of family members, the total number of individuals in 154 groups needs further confirmation.
