Warhol's work won the highest in 20th-century art history for $195 million
Maybe the image wasn't lively, like the image of Marilyn Monroe flying in a dress in the movie The Seven Year Itch, but on Monday night it became the most expensive.
In less than four minutes of bidding, Andy Warhol's 1964 actress's face screen print Shot Sage Blue Marilyn sold to an unknown buyer for about $195 million at Christie's in New York, making it the highest-priced artwork in any American.
Surpassing the $110.5 million price of Basquiat's skull painting at Sotheby's auction house in 2017 and the high price Warhol auctioned for a car accident, the painting sold for $105.4 million in 2013.

The winning bidder has not yet been disclosed, but according to auctioneer Christie's, the proceeds will be used by foundations that exhibit works to improve children's medical and educational standards.
