Seemingly discarded and useless dead leaves, foam, bottle caps, and old fans can also be "turned into magic" by artistic processing. On the morning of May 9, an art exhibition with the theme of "Waste Recycling Design" opened in Guangdong Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Vocational and Technical College. The waste products that were once silent in the garbage bins and warehouses have changed in the hands of the students, re-entered people's vision, and become works of art full of visual tension and whimsy, and have a new artistic life.

Dead leaves can glue into angel wings, fan covers form the backbone of dragons, and fan leaves bloom beautiful flowers... At the exhibition site, 32 pieces of waste installation art amazed everyone. These works are not the "brain holes" of mature artists, but were born in the hands of a group of first-year students majoring in product art design.

Not long ago, they ended a 30-hour Workshop course. Instructor Gui Ming designed the theme with the aim of inspiring students to discover effective materials that have been neglected and abandoned in their lives and transform them into works of artistry or functionality.

Work "Rebirth"

Hanging in the exhibition hall and several meters high, "Rebirth" is a pair of huge wings made of a large number of leaves, and the work uses material substitution design techniques, and the wings seem to rise from the dead leaf pile, forming a strong visual impact. This is the result of a busy month and a half of 7 members of the team. Team member Lin Guiying introduced that in order to create this work, the team students picked up a whole 28 sacks of fallen leaves under the tree, and in order to create a vivid effect of wing feathers, it was also necessary to carefully pick and paste the dead leaves layer by layer, which was quite laborious. "The meaning of the work is not to be willing to be ordinary, not to bow to suffering, to self-improvement, to rise up, to become the focus of brilliance," Lin Guiying said, "my biggest gain is to be able to calm down to discover the bits and pieces of life, transform it, discover beauty, create beauty." ”

The dragon coiled on the lawn outside the exhibition hall is also a major focus of the exhibition. The dragon's body is several meters long, made up of more than 1,000 fan blades, and the keel skeleton is actually a metal waste fan mesh cover. Wang Changwen, a member of the creative team, told reporters about the creative process: first remove all the old fans accumulated in the warehouse, and then cut, drill, assemble, wire or plastic rolling belt in series to connect the dragon's "scales", due to the large number of blades, there is half a month, the team of 7 people almost from morning to night soaked on the site. "When we treat 'garbage' as a material without attributes, the mind can unfold." This is Wang Changwen's reflection after the birth of the work.

At the scene, there are also wooden stakes spliced together from wood processing waste, "smoke lungs" made of discarded cigarette butts, and "waves" made of foam and straw stacked... All works of art, or reveal the severity of the environmental protection situation, or are full of warmth for the people's livelihood, are students' reflections on reality. Teacher Gui Ming commented: "Through this exhibition, I found that in addition to learning professional skills, students' creativity, insight into social issues and artistic expression ability have been fully exercised and improved in the curriculum. Students need to have such an open, divergent mindset, and I encourage them to express themselves more from the heart, rather than being limited to a specific topic. ”

In the course of practical teaching, we continue to excavate the elements of ideological politics, integrate ideological and political education with art practice teaching, and innovate, which has become a highlight of the School of Art and Design of Guangdong Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Vocational and Technical College. The results of classroom teaching were moved to the outdoors to show the achievements of talent training stages, which in the view of Liu Xin, dean of the School of Art and Design, is a transformation from practical teaching to "actual combat".

"In this exhibition, the college can design the teaching content according to the needs of social development, which is the goal to be pursued by the vocational education teaching reform itself, which is a very meaningful attempt." Students should make good use of the school's teaching resources and make more and better works to enrich the school, enrich the society, and enrich your personal life. Principal Lee said.
