The Gaza Strip is a palestinian area with a total area of about 365 square kilometers and a population of about 2.1 million, mainly Palestinians. Palestinians living in Palestinian areas on the Mediterranean coast were once the main inhabitants of this land, but in 1947 the United Nations adopted the Palestinian-Israeli partition plan, which established Palestine and Israel in the Palestinian areas.
When Israel was proclaimed in 1948, the Palestinians rejected the Palestinian-Israeli partition plan and did not establish an immediate state. After the establishment of Israel, the Arab countries provoked a war in the Middle East and tried to destroy the nascent state of Israel. But in several wars in the Middle East, the Arab countries have not won a single victory. This has led to the constant encroachment of the land allocated by the United Nations to the Palestinians by Israel.
Until now, there are only two parts left in Palestine, namely the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The West Bank covers an area of about 5,800 square kilometers, the Palestinians control about 2,500 square kilometers, and other parts have been encroached upon by Israel. There are about 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank.
The West Bank is located west of the Jordan River, is not bordered by the sea, and belongs to the inland area. Since the land was already surrounded by Israel, the local Palestinians could not go to sea, and foreign trade could only be carried out through Israel. Therefore, it is difficult for the West Bank region to independently carry out foreign trade, whether it is exporting goods or importing materials, it needs to pass through Israeli ports and accept Israeli inspections before it can successfully complete trade.
However, the Gaza Strip is not landlocked, and the Gaza Strip is located west of Palestine, bordering Egypt to the south and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. According to common sense, on the verge of the sea, it is natural to go directly to the sea for trade, but this is not the case. In fact, the Gaza strip cannot go to sea, it is a coastal inland area, so what is going on, the Gaza Strip is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, why can't it go to sea?
In fact, it is mainly because of Israel. The Gaza Strip is an arid region, one-third of the land is sand dunes, the local agriculture is very backward, and the industry is only a few textile industries. The Gaza Strip, with a population of 2.1 million, therefore needs to import all kinds of daily necessities. But Israel has imposed a very strict blockade on the Gaza Strip.
On land, Israel has built a tall separation wall along the border, which is more than 600 kilometres long and about 10 metres high, with barbed wire on the wall. The wall is within three hundred metres of the security zone and is forbidden for anyone to enter. Through the separation wall, Israel has closed the Gaza Strip, retaining only a few ports and engaging in exchanges. But the management of the crossings is also very strict, and the Passage of palestinians requires strict inspections.
On the sea, Israeli patrol boats patrol the waters of Gaza for a long time, prohibiting them from going to sea from the Gaza Strip, and if the ship rushes to sea and is found by Israel, it may be directly sunk. In the air, Israel has also exercised strict control over gaza's airspace. Therefore, although the Gaza Strip is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, it cannot go to the sea, and on the whole, the Gaza Strip is like a big prison, under the Israeli blockade for a long time. But Israel also allows trade in the Gaza Strip, but it also has to be inspected by Israel, as in the West Bank.
