The artist Marie-Claire Houmeau received no special artistic education. She had been preparing for her profession as a lawyer for many years, but in the end, she suddenly decided to leave the field and become an artist.

She traveled the world and lived in Japan for several years, where she painted a large number of watercolors about the country and its inhabitants. Then she returned to Paris and stayed in Venice for a while. She wrote down her impressions of the Canals of Venice and the streets of Paris.
