Steam-themed sale - "Born to Die" game festival was officially launched in the early hours of this morning.
Before that, we briefly talked about it, this will be a high-difficulty game-based activity, such as Roguelike, Soul-like, Galaxy-like Castlevania.
So how do these game types differentiate and what do they originate from? What are the unique mechanisms? Taking advantage of this event, Steam officials also specially posted an answer to this question.
So today we will follow the official introduction for a simple explanation, and then list the games and good prices worth paying attention to in this sale.
01
The origin of "Rogue"
First of all, there is indeed such a game called Rogue, and it is also available in the Steam store.
Rogue
Permanent death, program generation

First introduced in 1980, the game combines role-playing elements, randomly generated maps, and perpetual death, allowing players to take an adventure through the underground maze, while levels and items are randomly generated and increasingly difficult.
With the unique gameplay experience created by it, this game based on the UNIX platform and the very simple screen more than 40 years ago has later become the originator of the meat pigeon and the source of all evil in the mouths of the majority of meat pigeon lovers.
02
A subclass of Rogue
The core of Rogue's appeal to players is two things: randomly generated content and permanent death.
This also inspired many later games, and competed to imitate them, so these games were classified as "Roguelike".
Rogue-like games have the same complexity, random maps, permanent death, etc., but a variety of ways to present the gameplay make the label more refined, such as "action rogue", "card-building rogue" and so on.
Later, however, some game developers abandoned this point while borrowing from the Rogue mechanics and felt that permanent death (zero reopening) would make it too difficult for players.
For example, even if the player character dies, he can inherit the previous equipment, points, levels, and abilities before entering the next game.
The game is classified as "Roguelite."
Of course, now when you browse the game on Steam, you find that many games have these two labels at the same time, but there is no mistake, mainly because the boundaries between the two have become more and more blurred after modern games have added more gameplay elements and mechanics.

Like Galactic Warriors Castlevania
The Galactic-like Castlevania game borrows from two game series – Metroidvania, which came out in 1986, and Castlevania, which came out in 1986.
The classic elements of this genre are non-linear gameplay, sci-fi, and progression that needs to be unlocked, and most of them are platform action games.
Of course, the modern restrictions on the genre and background of this genre are no longer so strict.
