In motorsport, it's home to a month-long motorsport extravaganza, with every Memorial Day weekend hosting the 500-mile IndyCar race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the historic two-mile and a half-mile racing oval track on the town's west side.

Circle City also hosted the NHRA's Nationals and Performance Racing Industry Trade Show, both of which are big deals. However, when it comes to trucks, "Work Truck Week" consumes the city every year, catering to drills and equipment used for heavy work. The pickup truck crowd was not excluded. For enthusiasts interested in buying or selling one (or more) pickups, the Indiana State Fairgrounds (also in Indy) is where it is every May. Why? Because this is where Mecum Auctions' second "grandfather" event takes place (the auction in Kissimmee, Florida is the first big auction) – May 13 to May 21 this year.

With a few events left in 2022, MotorTrend, through live streams on MotorTrend TV and MotorTrend+, as well as mini-features for truck and off-road group content producers, topped all The Memorial Auctions events, highlighting previous and in some cases, custom 1971 Chevy C10 like this, after they crossed the block.

While the auction lot in Indianapolis was filled with the C10 and other vintage trucks, what we're focusing on in this report is the updated 1/2 ton: Chevrolet's 1990 Silverado C1500 454 SS, arguably the first modern "performance" pickup truck.
