The leek, known as the "giant panda of the plant world", was recently found at the Longyang Branch of the Baoshan Management and Protection Bureau of The Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan Province, which not only marked that the ecological environment of Gaoligong Mountain was getting better and better, but also provided a living space for endangered plants.

At the monitoring point of the black pond at the Zhao Kang Pipe Protection Station, the leeks wander quietly in the water, and the bright green branches sway with the wind. In April, it was discovered by monitors in the conservation of very small populations.

After identification, the water leeks found were initially determined to be Yungui leeks, with a total area of more than 10 square meters and a number of about 500-700 plants. It is reported that Yungui water leeks only exist in Guizhou and Yunnan, while yunnan is currently only found in Gaoligong Mountain.

Wang Jianyun, a professor at the School of Resources and Environment of Baoshan University, introduced: "Yungui water leeks were first found in the Black Dragon Pond in Kunming, and have now disappeared. In Gaoligong Mountain, we found that the least population of water leeks is only 14 plants, generally more than 30 plants, and this one has more than 500 plants, which is already a relatively large population. This also shows that gaoligong mountain plays an important role in national biodiversity conservation and ecological barriers.

Water leeks are endemic to China and are endangered aquatic ferns that grow mainly on inaccessible shallow pond swamps, pond edges and ravines on silt soil, and are relict plants that have survived from Quaternary glaciers.

Wang Jianyun said: "From the perspective of research value, it has important value for studying the phylogeny of plants and the fauna origin of East Asian plants. (Wu Xiuhua, Mang Hongsheng, Li Jiahua, Zhao Shijie)
