This is the first bomb attack on a Chinese citizen in Pakistan this year. It was also the first major bomb attack in a pakistani major city since the new Pakistani prime minister, Shabaz Sharif took office this month.
The Majid Brigade, a part of the Separatist Army of Balochistan in Pakistan's Balochistan Province, has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack at Karachi University. According to a spokesperson for the group, the suicide bombing was carried out by a woman named Sally Baloch who carried out the suicide bombing.
The Balochistan Liberation Army said Sally, 30, joined the group two years ago. It's hard to know why she joined the terrorist group, but as a student, Sally was a member of the Balochi student organization. Shockingly, the suicide bomber was not only a woman, but also a person with a highly educated background and a good family condition. She received her bachelor's degree in 2014 and a master's degree in zoology from Balochistan University in 2018 and a master's degree in philosophy from The Arama Iqbal Open University. Later Sally was a primary school teacher in her hometown of Cage, Balochistan, with a master's degree, and she was not only married, but also had two children, and her husband was a dentist.
About 10 hours before the incident, Sally tweeted a "goodbye" message saying goodbye to people when no one knew what she was going to do next.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BALO), a terrorist organization banned by the Pakistani government, Mali, Bugati and Menger, are the three major tribal armed forces and their core forces.
In 1947, when India and Pakistan were partitioned, the Balochistan state of Karat refused to join Pakistan and declared itself to establish the so-called "independent state of Balochistan", which was suppressed by the Pakistani government by force a year later. Later, the Baloch launched several armed insurrections demanding a high degree of internal autonomy, all of which were quelled by the Pakistani government by force.

However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, they not only lost their source of funds, but also lost their spiritual pillar, and began to fall silent.

In fact, the "Balochistan Liberation Army" itself does not have much strength, its personnel is not more than 500 people at best, but the influence of this organization is very large, some other tribal armed forces in Balochistan are willing to borrow the name of the "Balochistan Liberation Army" after launching attacks on the government, and the "Balochistan Liberation Army" is also willing to take on a big package, to take things that are not done by themselves, in order to create a sensational effect and expand their influence.
In recent years, the Balochistan Liberation Army has frequently launched attacks on Chinese facilities and citizens in Pakistan.
In July 2021, the group launched a bomb attack on a bus carrying Chinese citizens involved in the construction of the Dasu hydropower station in northwestern Pakistan, killing nine Chinese workers and four Pakistani colleagues.
In 2019, three gunmen of the group raided a chinese-built upscale hotel in Gwadar Port, the five-star Pearl Continental Hotel. The incident resulted in the death of at least one person.
In November 2018, an attack on the Chinese Consulate General in Karachi killed two local police officers and two civilians.
This time, the attack on the Confucius Institute in Karachi was planned.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi was established on May 22, 2013, and as of 2020, the school has 30 Chinese teachers and more than 7,000 registered students. The three Chinese citizens killed were the president of the Confucius Institute and two teachers.
Some experts believe that as an educational institution, the Confucius Institute is not strong in protective measures, which is an important reason for this attack. Many infrastructure or other projects along the CPEC have different private guards, including Pakistan's military, and it is not so easy to carry out such an attack. Confucius Institutes are a relatively fragile place. Coupled with the fact that China may have to migrate in Pakistan in the future, vulnerable places may be increasing, and it is not very surprising that such a suicide attack is launched.
Natalia Zamalayeva, a senior researcher at the Center for The Study of Near-Middle Eastern Countries at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, believes that the threat of terrorists to the organizers and trainees of Chinese language learning is very obvious.

The Chinese side firmly supports Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts and will work with the Pakistani side to pursue the perpetrators with all its might, so that the black hands behind the scenes will be severely punished by justice and pay a heavy price.
Of course, the crackdown is necessary, and the bottom line is to suggest that Pakistan learn from the Chinese government's preferential treatment policies and pacification measures for ethnic minorities, and resolve the historical grievances of the Balochi people for independence as soon as possible.
