In her welcome speech, UNDP Representative in China, Bai Yating, said that the practice of "business as usual" can no longer be continued. To meet the global temperature control target of 1.5 degrees Celsius, we must act now to decarbonize our economies, drive social change, and fundamentally reshape our relationship with nature. ”

She pointed out that accelerating the low-carbon transition of enterprises in China will have a significant impact on global climate action. "What we lack is not knowledge, money and technology, but a true global collaboration. Only by fully practicing sustainable development, formulating an effective net zero strategy, and doing the 'difficult and right' things can the 'double carbon' goal be achieved. ”

Sun Xiao, secretary general of the China Chamber of International Commerce, said, "Achieving the 'double carbon' goal is an uphill battle that requires the cooperation of all walks of life and a common win. He proposed that first, we must adhere to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and practice true multilateralism; second, we must strengthen basic research and promote carbon-neutral technological innovation; third, we must strengthen multi-party cooperation and promote the coordination of industrial chains.

Joe Kai, Commercial Counsellor and Greater China Manager of the Swedish Trade and Investment Council, said, "Sweden is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2045. Many Swedish companies have set their own carbon neutrality goals, and some of them plan to achieve carbon neutrality as early as 2045. In China, through the 'Pioneer Sweden' platform, we support Swedish companies in China to become models of sustainable development, support Swedish companies to achieve carbon neutrality goals, and introduce Sustainable Solutions from Sweden to China. ”

During the meeting, the third phase of the series of reports on the sustainable development of enterprises in China was also launched. Jointly conducted by UNDP, PwC and the China Chamber of International Commerce, the report aims to become an important reference tool for enterprises in China to better integrate the SDGs into their development strategies and decision-making processes through research analysis and case collection. This year's report, "Sustainable Development Actions for Businesses in China – Low-Carbon Transition: Climate Governance and Strategic Planning," is expected to be released by the end of the year.

On June 5, 1972, the United Nations held the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden, and the conference adopted the Declaration on the Human Environment and proposed that June 5 of each year be designated as World Environment Day.

The Stockholm Conference marked a turning point in the global cause of environmental protection, which not only laid the foundations for the development of modern international environmental law, but also led to the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this historic conference, the Stockholm+50 Global Summit, under the theme "Protecting a Healthy Planet for Prosperity for All – Our Responsibility, Our Opportunity", will take place in Sweden from 2 to 3 June.
