Handel: Harp Concerto
Marissa Roberts / St. Martin Chamber Orchestra
Handel's Harp Concerto is arguably the most famous harp piece of all time. In fact, the original piece was not used for harp performance, but by the composer for the organ. However, it was adapted into a harp repertoire before it became known.
When the harp is used as the main instrument, it gives the work a new sense of sound. At the beginning of the music, the listener is in a happy mood with bright and positive strings, and the melody has a bright and beautiful color. After that, the main performance of the harp is crisp and cheerful, like crystal pebbles dotting the cheerful shallow stream, like the cool and flexible movement from the transparent crystal. I also like the lyrical and beautiful second movement, when the harp is relatively quiet, and the soothing melody overflows with elegant and feminine poetry, as if the tranquil precipitation after experiencing pleasure is glowing with a different charm.
Recordings performed by harpist Marissa Roberts with the St. Martin Chamber Orchestra conducted by Iona Brown. Among them, Roberts' piano tone is crystal clear, pearls and smooth, and Ms. Brown's conduct of the Saint-Martin Philharmonic is perfectly coordinated. The entire album on which the song is located is extremely good in both performance and recording, and it has received a three-star evaluation from the Penguin Record Guide.
In addition to the Handel Harp Concerto Op.4 No.6, played by the above-mentioned musicians, this collection of Harp Concertos produced by DECCA also includes the harp music of Bourvardieu, Dietersdorf, Mozart, Beethoven and other famous artists of the classical period.
Handel: The Messiah
Gardner / Monteverdi Choir
The "Messiah," written by Handel, is arguably the most sung oratorio in the world (including in English and many other languages, of course, the most sung in English) and is a sacred music familiar to Christians.
Gardner
This Messiah is a masterpiece by the master conductor and expert in ancient music, John Elliot Gardner. The conductor conceived the performance from the perspective of choral tradition – the craftsmanship of the Monteverdi Choir goes without saying, but more importantly, Gardner placed the choral part at its full core on the one hand, and on the other hand, pursued a simple, natural expression as much as possible. Gardner's positioning is to make the work naturally resemble "a" performance in the church, even though the perfection of that performance is difficult for ordinary people to achieve.
