The Rose family from the fairytale kingdom | Poulsen Roser A/S

The Kingdom of Denmark, far away in northern Europe, was a constitutional monarchy from the Viking era. For many generations, the Polsen family in Denmark has been a farmer family that herds cattle for a living. It wasn't until the birth of Dorus Theus Poulsen that family traditions changed because of him.

Family Origins : From Cattle Herder to King's Assistant

Doroth came to silkeborg in 1865 to work as horticulturist, then further abroad in Frijsenborg, and after graduating from the Agricultural University, Dorus began working at the Henderson School of Commercial Horticulture in London until 1874 when he returned to Denmark as an assistant by the Danish king. From 1878 onwards, he opened his first nursery near Copenhagen, the starting point of the Polson Rose Garden.

Doroth has a good reputation in Denmark and is recognized by the entire Danish horticultural community. In 1898 he was elected president of the "Danish Gardeners Association". He established Poulsen Roser A/S Polson Rose, a branded enterprise for the introduction of new varieties, improved horticultural education and the organization of horticultural exhibitions.

Chinatown and rose gold award

Polson Rose Company has developed into the most outstanding nursery in Denmark, and its reputation has spread far and wide. Dorus's sons Dines and Sven then inherited his love of the Garden Moon season and his work of crossbred breeding. The eldest son, Dines Poulsen, took over his father's Rose School. After him, younger brother Sven took over the business and passed it on to his son Nils Niels.

Niels is very talented in monthly breeding. His first work in the field of breeding was the "Chinatown" moon season, which is a yellow, fragrant flowery moon season. Overnight, Nils Poulson's name became famous in rose breeding circles, and "Chinatown" soon won quite a few international Rose awards. This variety is very "robust", very tough to grow, not only loved by the market, but also respected by many breeders. In 1965, "Pernille Poulsen" (named after his daughter, who later became the head of the Poulson family) and "Western Sun" were reborn, a brilliant work of Nils as a rose breeder. Both have gained international reputations in European and overseas countries and have achieved excellent results in international competitions.

In 1969, "Snowline" became another masterpiece of the Polson brand. It was selected in 1970 as the ADR Rose (Al Deutsche Roseneuheitsprüfung), germany's highest award for the monthly season.

A century-old family and a dream of the global monthly season

Today, the family business is run by Niels Poulsen's daughter Pernille Olesen née Poulsen (the fourth-generation head of Poulsen mentioned above) and her husband. Poulsen Roser A/S has grown over generations to become a world leader in indoor and outdoor new potted monthly and clematis breeding.

Every year, 30 million Polson monthly and more than 2 million Polson clematis are produced in nurseries in more than 60 countries around the world. More than 50% of all potted monthly seasons sold worldwide come from Polson Rose.

The Polson Rose Company, founded in 1878

Today, the management headquarters of Polson Rose is located in Fredensborg, Denmark, and the variety development department is located on the island of Fienne (Hans Christian Andersen's hometown). The Poulson family famously said that achieving worldwide success in the field of rose cultivation every year is an impossible dream, but we have been working hard. Like a Nordic fairy tale, this family has been working on the distant Nordic coast for the rose dream of the whole world.
