The first four emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty (Great Southern Empire) of Vietnam had the titles of Kaitian, Titian, Shaotian, and Jitian, and their domineering temples were all called Zu: Shi, Sheng, Xian and Cheng.

The last dynasty of Vietnam was the Nguyen Dynasty, which, since its founding in 1802, created the pinnacle of Vietnam's feudal dynasty, the first four emperors were:

Nguyễn Phuc Duc (Nguyễn Phuc Phuc Duc), during his reign as Emperor Ming, reigned from 1820 to 1840, founding the heyday of Vietnam. At that time, the Great Southern Empire of Vietnam and the Qing Empire of China were on a par with each other, becoming the two major feudal empires in the Far East. After Nguyen Phuc Huong's death, his temple name was Shengzu – the same as that of the Kangxi Emperor of the Chinese Qing Dynasty.

Nguyễn Phuc Hon Trịnh reigned from 1848 to 1883, also known as Emperor Thi Tak, during the reign of Nguyễn Phuc Thiện, the Great Southern Empire of Vietnam had begun to decline and was invaded by Western powers.
