On World Book Day, reading is expensive in persistence, and it is expensive to apply what you have learned

Now is the era of advocating reading for all, and reading is very important for everyone. Today is World Book Day, so let's talk about reading.

Many people like to read, but they always feel that they don't get much out of reading books. This may be related to personal reading habits. In fact, reading books can not only be reading, but more importantly, digesting and absorbing what you read and becoming what you need, this process is the process of combining theory and practice, and it is also a process of applying what you have learned. Reading is expensive in applying what you have learned. So, how to use the limited time to learn, how to apply the knowledge learned to their work and life?

On World Book Day, reading is expensive in persistence, and it is expensive to apply what you have learned

First, when to read and study

Some people may ask, there is so much time in a day, to work, to return home to do housework, but also to take care of the elderly, to take care of children, where is the time to study.

Mr. Lu Xun said: "Time is like water in a sponge, as long as you squeeze it, there is still some." "So how do we squeeze in time to learn?

There's a key word here, and that's fragmented time. Everyone has some fixed actions every day that require a long period of time to complete, such as work, study, sleep, eating, etc., of course, there are some time that is very scattered, but it can also be fully utilized. For example, when queuing, before going to work, before meetings, before going to bed, before lunch breaks, etc., we can use these scattered time to learn. For example, now that we have 5 minutes, we may open a book to read the content of a section, or read an article, or browse a piece of news, and make full use of the fragmentary time to read, so as to achieve the effect of seeing the needle.

Now many reading software has both text and voice, some although there is no real voice, but can also use AI technology to achieve listening to books, and the effect of listening to books is still very good, and some reading software purely use the form of listening to books, which provides convenience for us to read books. We can spend all fragmented time reading and learning. For example, every day, I use some idle time such as running in the morning, washing, cooking, eating, doing housework, commuting to work and driving or taking the bus, walking at noon, and before going to bed. Listening to books while exercising, listening to books while working, will not feel bored, but will also unconsciously increase some wisdom and learn some knowledge.

Of course, some books can't absorb much if you just listen to the lecture books. But after you have listened, you will have some understanding of the books, some identification, which books sound good, which books are very inspiring to you, which books you are very interested in, you can listen to it several times, or find the corresponding physical book or e-book to read carefully. Every time you read it, you will have different feelings and different thoughts. The understanding and mastery of the book will go further.

In this way, by using fragmented time to read or listen to books, you can learn purposefully, with purpose and interest, from a bunch of things to find what you want to learn, so that you can really learn something.

Second, how to apply what you have learned

The purpose of learning is not to show off how many books we have read, how many courses we have listened to, and how long we have learned, but to apply what we have learned. So how do you apply what you've learned? We can do it around the following four steps.

First, learn to refine. Refining is to choose the parts that you feel are important, interesting, and valuable from many reading materials, and extract them. Simply put, it's about finding something you want to learn from a bunch of things, something you're interested in. For us, there are many things that can be learned, such as some intellectual things, management methods and management skills, emotional, psychological knowledge, presentation skills, etc., or to find the corresponding books or courses for a problem, and find a solution to the problem through learning.

Many things are certainly useful, but not necessarily of our interest or necessarily of what we need at the moment. Therefore, we must learn to identify and learn to refine. Even if you just look at other people's circle of friends, you must maintain a learning mentality and find something valuable to you, such as seeing a very interesting picture, reading a very philosophical text, and seeing other people's exquisite interpretation of a book, you can record them. It's all a kind of learning.

When we listen to books or lectures, if we feel that some of the views and opinions told by the teacher are very inspiring to ourselves, we can quickly record them, taste them repeatedly, and think carefully, which is also a kind of progress.

The second step is to learn to connect. Connection is to establish knowledge links, that is, to associate what you see, hear, and learn with your own existing knowledge and experience, and connect with the knowledge system that has been established in your own mind, so as to produce inextricable links, so that you can effectively understand and accept new knowledge, and re-supplement and improve your own knowledge system.

When we read articles, to extract the concepts and materials we want, we will find that extracting them is not the most important thing, the most important thing is to relate to ourselves, plus our own labels and descriptions, and ultimately for us.

When we read, do not blindly pursue the speed and quantity of reading, but learn to find out whether there is something familiar to us in what we read, or what we really want in our hearts, something that we are interested in.

When we listen to the lessons, instead of simply listening there, but to put the ideas raised by the teacher, the examples listed, colliding with our work and life, think carefully about whether we have ever encountered similar situations in the past, had similar experiences, had similar experiences or lessons, so that it is easy to make connections.

The third step is to learn to integrate. Integration is the process of rearranging, dismantling, analyzing, refining, and creating your own content by reorganizing, dismantling, analyzing, and refining what you have seen, the knowledge you have learned, the books you have read, and the lessons you have heard. What we see, what we learn, the books we read, the lessons we have listened to, if we just listen, read, read, and don't process it in depth, are still someone else's things.

Only after their own processing, collation and analysis, dismantling and combination, and according to their own understanding, combined with their own cognition, the use of existing knowledge and experience, reprocessing, reuse, re-creation, in order to become their own things, become part of their own knowledge system. An important sign of integration is whether you can fully describe this knowledge point, the book, or the focus of this lesson in your own words. If you can do it, you really understand and master it.

Fourth, learn to output. The purpose of learning is to apply, and the effective way to apply is to output. There are many forms of output, such as lectures, such as sharing, such as writing, such as drawing mind maps, such as applying to practical work. Like the "I am a storyteller" book sharing activity organized by our company last year, it is a typical form of output. For these storytellers, through their sharing, they will have a deeper understanding of the knowledge in the book, and they will unconsciously apply this knowledge to their daily work.

Here, one of the most important ways of output I would like to introduce is writing. There are many ways to output reading and writing, such as taking reading notes, writing reading experiences, writing book reviews, and writing lecture manuscripts. The way I do it is to read the output intensively. Since the beginning of the previous year, I have tried to process the books I have read and then export them. After reading each book, I will combine my own understanding, interpret the whole book in detail in my own words, and write a series of articles.

Dozens of books have now been read in this way. For example, after reading the Book of Zeng Guofan and the Complete Book of the Family of Zeng Guofan, I wrote more than 140 articles, and after reading Structural Thinking, I wrote 21 articles. By writing articles to deeply interpret the content of the book, you will make yourself understand the content of the book more deeply, and it is easier to combine the content of the book with your own knowledge, experience, and experience to produce a deeper understanding.

Another effective method is to draw mind maps. In a book and a lesson, there is a course that is innovative mind mapping, and the teacher uses the innovative mind map to the extreme. He drew a mind map of the books he had read, the songs he had heard, the news he had read, the audios he had heard, the movies and TV dramas he had watched, and so on. Through drawing, the knowledge structure and framework are formed, and the understanding and mastery of knowledge are also deepened.

The process of learning is a process of refining- connecting- merging - and output. After we find the content, we have to disassemble and extract the core content and knowledge system, and then through processing, combination, innovation, and output through a certain form, applied to our work and life, so that the knowledge in the books and the knowledge in the curriculum become our own knowledge.

Third, how to persevere

Some people may say that I also want to learn, but I just can't stick to it. Here, I would like to give you a few suggestions that I hope will help.

1. Make a plan. Everything must be planned, so that a work is divided into several stages to complete, and it will not feel difficult.

2. Set a small goal every day. For example, today I want to read a few pages of a book, today I want to listen to a few minutes of lessons, and today I want to write an article of a few hundred words. This accumulates over time, and there will be great gains.

3, to achieve self-discipline. For example, get up at a fixed point in the morning and go to bed on time at night. You can't watch TV for more than a few hours a day and how many kilometers you have to run every day. There is a clear requirement. If you can't do it, there should be a punishment mechanism, and if you do, you can give yourself some small rewards. In this way, after a long time, you will become very disciplined.

4, develop a habit. Whether it is studying or exercising, you must complete it according to your own plan, and you can't put water, so that sticking to it for a period of time will make this behavior a habit. If we don't do something one day, we will feel uncomfortable, which means that your habit has been formed.

5. Apply what you have learned. Applying what you have learned is essentially turning other people's things into your own things and applying them to your work and study. What you learn must be applied to work and life, even if you only use a small knowledge, or a small skill, it is also a kind of progress. This continuous application and continuous improvement will make learning more motivated and more interested.

Now, many people are aware of the importance of reading and learning, and hope that we can all master the method of applying what we have learned, develop the habit of applying what we have learned, use the knowledge we have learned to improve our own knowledge system, truly apply the knowledge we have learned to practical work, and be honest in what we have learned, useful for learning, and success in learning.
