The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) recently released data on passenger and freight traffic at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for March 2022. In the month, the passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport was 94,000, an increase of 61.3% year-on-year, but still significantly lower than the pre-epidemic level. At the same time, cargo throughput and flight take-offs and landings in the month were 352,000 tons and 9,870 flights respectively, down 11.4% and 7.3% year-on-year, respectively.

In the first three months of this year, passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport increased by 41.7% to 251,000 passengers. Cargo throughput and flight take-offs and landings fell by 9.2 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively.

In the 12 months ended the end of March, HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT received 1.4 million passengers and took off and landed 144,505 flights, an increase of 70.4% and 13.1% respectively. Cargo throughput increased by 7.1% to 4.9 million tonnes.

Hong Kong International Airport was also named the world's busiest cargo airport in 2021 by the Association for International Airports (ACI). Hong Kong International Airport handled a total of 5 million tonnes of cargo, an increase of 12.5% compared to 2020.

Recently, BrightDrop, a subsidiary of General Motors, set a Guinness World Record for the longest mileage driven by an electric van on a single charge.

The record was made by FedEx driver Stephen Marlin driving a BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric van from New York City to Washington, D.C., with short stops in Philadelphia and Baltimore for a 260-mile journey.

Agility Robotics raised $150 million to focus on warehouse robotics

On April 22, warehousing technology company Agility Robotics announced the completion of a $150 million Series B funding round led by DCVC and Playground Globa and followed by Amazon's Industrial Innovation Fund.

Warehouse robots from 7-year-old Agility Robotics are capable of walking flat, climbing stairs and navigating unstructured environments while handling packages and stacking goods in warehouse fulfillment applications.

Agility's robots are used in warehouses across the country, including ford motor companies.

Agility previously completed a $20 million funding round in 2020, led by DCVC and Playground Global, followed by TDK Ventures, MFV Partners, Industrial Technology Investments, Sony Innovation Fund and Safer Partners.

Singapore Post: Achieve net zero domestic carbon emissions by 2030

Singapore Post announced that it aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions in its domestic operations by 2030 and zero carbon emissions in its global operations by 2050.

Singapore Post is also partnering with WWF-Singapore on an e-commerce reusable packaging pilot scheme that enables e-commerce retailers and shoppers to return reusable packaging using Singapore Post's PO Box infrastructure across the island, supporting the reverse e-commerce logistics supply chain and promoting a circular economy.
