  • Recorded in an entertainment studio.
  • "Wait" is Chen Baiqiang's favorite creation.
  • Danny's private friend Winnie WS Yuen Nguyen Hui Shan (Another World Disco PR) was working part-time as a film publicist at the time, and Shi Nansheng (Xu Ke's wife), the then administrative director of New Art City, asked her if she had any big-name young idols to recommend to star in "Merry Christmas", and Winnie immediately recommended Danny and Zhang Guorong.

Winnie Yuen and Chen Baiqiang

  • During the filming of the film, due to the story of the "last bus of love" that occurred between the skinhead (Played by Mai Jia) and Xiao Fengjie (Played by Xu Xiaofeng), Chen Baiqiang composed the song "Wait".
  • "Wait" was created by Chen Baiqiang when he was inspired to audition at a piano shop in Central.
  • After the song "Wait" was written, Chen Baiqiang played it to director Gao Zhisen during the filming of the play in the stadium scene, and asked whether it was suitable for use in the movie. Gao Zhisen described the scene at that time: "I remember that one night there was no Chen Baiqiang's role, but he still wore a white sweatshirt and pants, came to the stadium to find me, he came to the scene with a small white cassette machine, put a music played by himself to me, the song has not been scored, filled in the words, only a demo, but the melody is very beautiful, I thought it was necessary, but at that time, the 26-year-old was hindered by the dignity of the young director, and did not give high praise, and then I still used the song. That song is one of his masterpieces, "Wait."
  • Xu Xiaofeng once revealed that Chen Baiqiang invited her to listen to his new song between waiting for her position on the film set, and he played the song "Wait" that still had no lyrics on the piano on the set.
  • When handing over the song to Zheng Guojiang to fill in the lyrics, Chen Baiqiang once conveyed the concept of the lyrics in his mind: "People are on the road of feelings, it is like waiting for a bus, when one comes on, you don't know if it will be the last bus; you very much hope it is not, but if you don't get on, you can't predict whether there will be another last train." And Zheng Guojiang once described what Mai Jia once said to him: "Mai Jia said that "people always love to pick and choose on the road of love, and when they turn back, they realize that they missed the tail train", which is the spirit of the whole song."
  • Zheng Guojiang wrote two versions of the lyrics for the song, and Chen Baiqiang extracted the essence of the two lyrics and combined them into the final version of the lyrics. Among them, the originally filled in lyrics filled in this sentence "heart full of sorrow" (tone 3-1-1-4-1), but due to the pronunciation problem when singing, Chen Baiqiang changed it to "heart full of sorrow" (tone 3-1-1-2-1). In order to respect the lyricist, Chen Baiqiang also called Zheng Guojiang from the entertainment recording studio to inform him of the change.

  • Chen Baiqiang originally planned to sing this song with Xu Xiaofeng, but due to copyright reasons, Xu Xiaofeng's contract with Kang Yichengyin was about to end and he was about to pass the file Poly Gold.
  • At the end of the song, Chen Baiqiang hummed a few sentences of "woo.. woo..」 It was his idea, and he revealed that he was very satisfied with the effect of this hum after the addition. In earlier versions of the film, this hum was not yet added.
  • "Merry Christmas" was filmed for about 40 working days from September to November 1984, while Chan Baiqiang filmed about 30 days, and the interior was filmed at the Sha Tin Charcoal Factory in New Art City.
  • The new Art City film "Merry Christmas" was released from December 12, 1984 to January 08, 1985, supervising producer Shi Nansheng, director Gao Zhisen, screenwriter Gao Zhisen and Feng Shixiong, soundtrack Lin Mude, starring Mai Jia, Xu Xiaofeng, Chen Baiqiang, Liang Yunrui, Wang Jiaming (bald boy), Yuan Heping, Li Lizhen, Zhang Guorong, etc. The film grossed HK$25 million, ranking second in the 1984 box office list, second only to the HK$29 million "Best Partner Empress Secret Order".

  • One of the most touching things in "Wait" is "Mo Dao you are choosing people, people can also choose you, fairness is not half eccentric." The meaning of this lyric is thought-provoking, and many people regard it as a golden sentence.
  • "Wait" failed to win the 1985 year-end "Top Ten Chinese Golden Songs" and "Top Ten Golden Songs Season Selection". Some say that it was due to the great reduction in exposure due to Chen Baiqiang's malicious rumors in mid-1985, and it is also said that it was because Chen Baiqiang decided not to renew his contract with Warner Records, which caused Warner to no longer invest resources in publicity and no longer register for the competition for this song. Even so, for many years afterwards, "Wait" was still widely recognized among famous singers, musicians, critics and fans, and was regarded as one of the best original songs of the 80s.
  • Chen Baiqiang's close friend He Chaoqiong later said: "Since his debut, he has insisted on creating, and I remember that after listening to the song "Wait", everyone really felt that the songs and lyrics had their own shadows, and Danny thought that music was the portrayal of everyone's life."
  • Singer Xia Shaosheng sang "Wait" in the 1998 fever album "Zen", and he later said in the 2007 Hong Kong and Taiwan "Who Resonates" program: "After listening to the song "Wait", I found that the songs I often say to others should be sent from the heart, and Chen Baiqiang can do it. Sometimes we need to appreciate what's around us, and after all these years you find out that he's gone and gone."
  • The famous musician Lei Songde once said in the 2008 "Zhiyun Rice Bureau" program: "'Wait' is the best singer's self-composed and self-singing song. There aren't many singer-song-writers in Hong Kong, but there are also such talented people. The melody and interpretation of the whole song are seamless, the singer is not singing, the listener is in the ear, it is a person's voice."
  • The famous singer-songwriter Guang Liang said: "He has a song that I used to play a lot when I practiced the piano, and I will be very touched every time I listen to it, this song is Chen Baiqiang's "Wait", such a simple melody, every time I sing the first note, I already want to know what the song is going to say. Simple and moving music is the most difficult, and I hope to spur my own writing to be like this."
  • Xu Riqin replied at the opening ceremony of the 2016 "Cheer for You Chen Baiqiang Fan Club" about the song he liked chen baiqiang the most: "If you want to say that he (Chen Baiqiang) composed his own songs, my favorite is "Wait.""
  • Xiang Xuehuai revealed in the 2016 "Red Star Pursuit Famous Song Sing" program that among the lyrics of all love songs, he was most impressed by "Wait" and "What to Ask for in Life", which he described: "'Wait' has a good saying, that is, "Mo Dao you are choosing people, people can also choose you". In fact, all the things in the world are fair... A good lyric is actually followed by a philosophy in it."
  • In the 2016 "Our Favorite 1985 Golden Song" public online election launched by "I Sing, So I Am Happy" on Facebook, "Wait" won the first place with a high vote, showing fans' recognition of this golden song.
  • Musician Zhao Wenhai revealed in the 2018 Sooradio "Prefer Chen Baiqiang" program: "One of the songs I like very much is "Wait", which has a sentence of "Mo Dao you are choosing people, people can also choose you", this sentence is very fatal, a kind of boyish feeling, in the chase and can not chase the feeling, in the end you choose me or I choose you? This lyric and this melody are very well matched."
  • Musician Wu Zhongheng and singer Wang Xinping collaborated on the song "Wait" on Facebook Live in 2020, and Wu Zhongheng said at the time: "Actually, I like Chen Baiqiang, I like this song, he writes songs well, sings well." 」 After Wang Xinping finished singing, he said: "I want to cry a little bit halfway through the song, some concerts make your emotions gush out, I like this song, he is my idol." 」
  • "Wait" is loved by major famous singers, such as Eason Chan, Mui Yanfang, Chen Huixian, Jacky Cheung, Ye Qianwen, Li Keqin, Chen Jieyi, Leung Hon Man, Liu Meijun, Tang Baoru and other singers have sung this song in concerts or records.

  • The original song comes from: 1984 "Top 100 '84" album.
  • Influenced by the 1984 blockbuster movie Breakin' (aka Breakdance), a breakdancing craze broke out in Hong Kong, and the record company remixed Genesis into a breakdancing version of Long Version, which was not released to the public, but only played on Disco.
  • "Long Version" is the first true Remix song in Hong Kong history. Previously, there was a debate about whether the first Remix song in Hong Kong was Lin Zixiang's "Love to Burn (12" Special Extended Edition) or "Long Version", "Love to Fever (12"Special Extended Edition)" was simply to lengthen the song, while "Long Version" had more changes and was more in line with the definition of Remix. The first public release of the Remix Single was Chen Xiuwen's "Club Mix".
  • Chan sang the Remix version of the song on the TVB's "Superstar Thunderbolt Club" on 1984.09.01, in which he performed impressive handheld stage spotlights and Moonwalk steps.
  • When the song was launched, Huang Baigao revealed the production process of this song to the media: "This is mainly because we hope to bring out the latest trend of the day, this can be said to be the first 12-inch version of Remix in Hong Kong, and it is also the first work expressed in the Breakthrough technique, we intend to play this song to Discos of all sizes, hoping to receive the evaluation of the dancers, and one of the biggest reasons is to promote the style that Chan Pak Keung has changed in this disc, which is an experiment." Paco and Alvin replied, "And we're going to have David Ling Jr doing the editing for us."

"The twelve inches are still undecided about whether they will be sold publicly, depending on the fans' reaction to the song."

"This disc is a "big disc" supervised by Chen Baiqiang, so the final decision was in his hands, and of course he agreed, we did it for two days, after the first day of doing it, we found that the effect was ordinary, so after studying it, we carried it out a second time, and finally satisfied, and Chen Baiqiang was also very happy after listening to it, and he also liked it!" 」
