Oppo Find X5 review

author:Broken Shell Science Society

As an intermediate model between the Lite and Pro models, the Oppo Find X5 is easily overlooked. Even Oppo itself describes the phone with only 4 pages in its review guide, while the Pro is more than 40 pages. So the question is, is it more cost-effective than the Xiaomi Mi 12 or Galaxy S22?

Design & Build

  • The rear is matte glass
  • No IP rating
  • Gorilla glass

If you're familiar with the Find X5 Pro, the X5 looks essentially the same. It has the same organic curve under the camera module. The main difference in construction is that the X5 does not have the Pro's ceramic backplane. Instead, it's ultra-smooth matte glass that sparkles in the sun. It's the same chassis as the Pro, but it's a few millimeters narrower, shorter, and 0.2mm thicker. On top of that, the absence of ceramic means it's 22 grams lighter and weighs less than 200 grams. However, it doesn't have an IP rating like Pro.

Display and audio

  • 6.55 inch AMOLED screen
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • Stereo speakers

The Find X5's display is much smaller than the Pro's. It's not just the size aspect: the resolution and underlying technology are also different. The Pro has a WQHD+ LTPO panel, while the Regular X5 uses a lower resolution FHD+ LTPS display. In short, this means that X5 doesn't support variable refresh rates, so it can't help save as much power as the Pro's screen.

The 120Hz AMOLED screen, with a brightness of 1000 nits (or 500 nits for the entire screen), is good to use except for direct sunlight. The colors are vibrant, the viewing angles are great, and they're friendly, especially when watching HDR content. Stereo speakers are the same as the Pro, which means the X5 is great for watching videos and gaming.

Specifications and performance

  • Snapdragon 888 chipset
  • 8GB RAM and 256GB storage
  • Dual SIM 5G

So far, the X5's cost-cutting measures have included subtracting water resistance and lower-resolution screens. X5 owners use Snapdragon 888 and 8GB of RAM instead of 8 Gen 1 processors. However, the performance is almost indistinguishable from the X5 Pro, in part because of the lower resolution and the low performance requirements.

Like the Pro, it has only one model with 256GB of internal storage. The Dual SIM Tray does not accept any type of card storage and therefore cannot be expanded locally.

Battery and charging

  • 4800mAh battery
  • 80W wired charging (charger included)
  • 30W wireless charging

Large battery capacity is basically the standard of Android phones, two independent internal batteries, normal use, survive a day without problems. And there are various power saving modes that can help extend this time, such as keeping the screen brightness low and avoiding gaming or any other processor-intensive application.

Camera and video

  • 50Mp main camera and ultra-wide camera
  • 13Mp 2x telephoto
  • 32Mp punched selfie camera

There is only a slight difference between the cameras on the Find X5 and X5 Pro, and having similar photography and video features at a lower price is one of the advantages of the X5.

summary

For the price, it's actually quite good. Its main disadvantage is the lack of IP rating, that is, it is not waterproof. Storage is not scalable, and the 256GB model is the only option. However, it is also worth the price, so overall, it is still a mobile phone that can be bought.
