Cold and oxygen-deficient, harsh climate, strong ultraviolet rays, even a short summer, may make you feel the four seasons in a day. In such a special environment, the family of Yan Shixiu, an employee of PetroChina, stayed for 12 years as a family unit.
In the past 12 years, the Yuzhufeng gas station has insisted on the old Yan family, and has made the gas station in this life forbidden area into a "family blood transfusion station on the heavenly road".
Drivers passing by, even if they are not supplies, must come in and sit down, drink a cup of hot water, eat a bowl of noodle soup, and joke with Lao Yan for a while.
The average daily refueling volume of gas stations has also increased from less than 1 ton in the past to 20 tons today, and even reached about 40 tons at the highest.
Hired old face
Yan Shixiu grew up in the countryside, because he was dark and thin and somewhat old, everyone called him "Old Yan".
In 1972, Lao Yan was born in Zongbao Township, Minhe County, the lowest altitude in Qinghai Province, and after graduating from high school, he went out to work, loading trucks and unloading goods, which was the most work he did.
One day in July 2010, Lao Yan learned from his hometown that PetroChina was recruiting workers, and he plucked up the courage to inquire all the way to the door of PetroChina Golmud Sales Company and explained his intentions. Recruiters said that the most critical part of the recruitment conditions is the need to stick to it for a long time - the Jade Everest gas station at an altitude of 4200 meters, more than 100 kilometers away from Golmud City, the conditions are harsh, the climate is harsh, and before Lao Yan, the next four groups of employees have left one after another. When Lao Yan heard that he could pay his salary on time, he said continuously: "I will continue to work, I will definitely do it."
So, Lao Yan was hired, this year he was 38 years old.
Come to the station for the first month
When Lao Yan first arrived at the gas station, he was strange and fresh to everything, and he carefully observed everyone working, talking, and doing things.
There are not many cars coming to the gas station, about a dozen people work three shifts, the last week shift is a week off, everyone is looking forward to the end of the week soon, you can go down the mountain to relax for a few days.
But the old face stayed for two months. These two months to stay down, the old face only has a feeling, there are not many cars, but there are many people, wasteful!
One day, the company's leaders came to the station to check, saw the old face, and asked, "How does it feel to go to work at the gas station? ”
Lao Yan smiled: "I didn't go to Golmud, I stayed here all the time." ”
As soon as the leader heard it, he felt that this time he had recruited the right person.

One night at 9 p.m., the family was eating dinner, 3 large trucks came to refuel, the driver smelled the aroma of milk tea and oil cake and said: "Your family smells so fragrant!" Lao Yan immediately guessed that they were also hungry, so he quickly invited them to sit down, and his daughter-in-law Luo Guilan specially fried a shredded potato and added a few oil cakes.
This meal did not take long, but it gave Luo Guilan a lot of inspiration, thinking of the driver who runs on the road every day, because the land is sparsely populated, and there is no guarantee that the meal is always hungry and full.
Therefore, after sending away several drivers, the old two decided to supply oil cakes and milk tea 24 hours a day. Lao Yan also made many friends through the warm heart of oil cake milk tea.
In order to let the truck driver who spent the night on the Gobi Desert next to the gas station rest well, he vacated the extra empty room, cleaned it, added new bedding, oxygen inhalers, massage chairs, etc., and invited the overnight driver to the "home" and let them rest for free.
In order to let the driver sleep at ease, the Lao Yan family took on the safety of the car.
Every morning at five o'clock, Lao Yan will check the safety status of the oil depot on time, and the most important thing is to keep the oil gun warm.
Daughter-in-law Luo Guilan not only has to work, but also takes care of the life of the whole family.

"Someone is killed, I have to help"
On November 13, 2011, Lao Yan got up early to work as usual, and when he was refueling, he heard someone calling "Master hurry up and put out the fire, hurry up", Lao Yan learned that the fire site was more than ten miles away, borrowed a Tibetan friend's minivan, pulled up the fire extinguisher, and ran to the fire site.
In recent years, the troops often went to the Yuzhu Peak gas station for exercises, and Lao Yan was busy discussing with his family: "The training of the troops is very hard, we can't always guard the gas station, we should send some water and food to the soldiers." ”
There is no running water in Xidatan, and the water must be taken to the nearby small river to take the meltwater of ice and snow, Lao Yan and his son will send water to the troops every day, just like this, Lao Yan and them have become friends, and after that, every year on august 1st Army Day, there will be more Yan Shixiu in the barracks.
One evening in June 2015, a little girl asked for help at a gas station. "Our family has altitude sickness, quick, can you save us!"
Lao Yan rushed out of the house, saw the little girl's parents and brother leaning in the car, the condition was very serious, he immediately provided oxygen, and sent them to Golmud City Hospital overnight to get out of danger. The Lao Yan family has lost count of how many times this kind of rescue has been made.
According to Lao Yan's words: If someone is in distress, I must help; if someone is in distress, I must save. There are many pennants hanging on the wall of the Jade Everest gas station, which are helpful for others, there are those who save lives and help the injured, there are those who collect gold, and there are fire rescues...
His son is also buried here
In 2014, misfortune came without warning, Lao Yan's eldest son fell seriously ill with a high altitude and lack of oxygen, and unfortunately passed away during a repair of the generator, leaving his daughter less than 1 year old.
Lao Yan buried his eldest son on the Gobi Desert, only a mile from the gas station, where there was the only red willow tree in a radius of more than a dozen miles.
When Old Yan missed his son, he would take a cigarette, slowly walk under the red willow tree, and sit by his son's grave. The pain of losing a son tested this weather-beaten family as never before. Whether to leave or stay, the family was shaken, but Lao Yan still gritted his teeth and said to his wife: "Can't go, my son stayed here, we have to guard him..."
A few months after the death of his eldest son, Lao Yan took his younger son Yan Jiyuan to the station.
Yan Jiyuan understood his father's suffering, and also understood that the gas station needed him, he gave up the college entrance examination and resolutely took over his brother's job.
There is another family blood transfusion station on the road
In September 2018, the new freeze-free spring gas station of Golmud Branch will soon open. The frozen spring gas station is located 40 kilometers southwest of the Yuzhufeng gas station, where the altitude is 4800 meters, there is no water and no electricity, the conditions are more difficult, and the selection of station managers and employees has become a headache for the branch.
After Lao Yan learned of the situation, he took the initiative to ask for help, and applied to take his daughter-in-law to the bu freeze spring gas station and hand over the Jade Everest gas station to his younger son to take care of.
Refueling at the frozen spring, the old face is full of preparations for the opening, recommending employees, cleaning and hygiene, learning to use new equipment, researching and identifying non-oil marketable goods... In the busy, Lao Yan's body also appeared unwell, after all, it was 600 meters higher than the Jade Everest gas station, and Lao Yan was unable to do so...
Seeing his father's hard work, the younger son was sad, and he proposed to his father his willingness to take his father to the gas station in the ice-free spring. With the efforts of the two grandfathers, the gas station finally began to officially open.
As a result, there was another family blood transfusion station on the road.
Since the spread of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Lao Yan has not taken a moment off, and has been busy cleaning and disinfecting the inside and outside of the station every day to provide a safe consumption environment for customers; to popularize the relevant knowledge of preventing the new coronavirus to the employees on the station to ensure that every employee's protection is in place. A driver said to Lao Yan, if one day you leave the gas station, we are really reluctant and not used to it.
Lao Yan said, I can't do without it, because my son stays here, but also because you driver friends and passing tourists are here.
