April 8 is the International Rare Animal Conservation Day, when Yunnan Zhaotong Dashanbao has just experienced continuous snowfall, and the cold is unexpectedly steep.
There are still more than 100 black-necked cranes in the Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve, because the cold wave has not been able to keep up with the normal northward migration of the large troops. Crane ranger Zhao Bingxiang brought 15 kilograms of corn to the Dahaizi Wetland in the reserve to feed the "plateau spirit" black-necked crane in the cold weather.

Yunnan Zhaotong Dashanbao, which has the "hometown of China's black-necked crane", is one of the important wintering grounds for the world's endangered species and the national key protected wild animal black-necked crane. After more than 30 years of effective protection, the number of black-necked cranes wintering here has increased from more than 300 at the beginning of the establishment of the reserve to nearly 2,000. Crane protectors are also an indispensable participant in the conservation of black-necked cranes.
Zhao Bingxiang's family has worked as crane guards in the reserve for two generations, and from November to April of the following year, they assist the staff of the reserve to confirm the number of black-necked cranes and feed the black-necked cranes in extreme weather conditions.
"Our family's relationship with the black-necked crane began with my mother Dong Yinglan. When the reserve was first established in 1990, she became the only crane keeper at the time. Zhao Bingxiang recalled that when he was a child, he always heard the call of black-necked cranes not far from home, and the locals called them "geese", he often followed his mother to protect the cranes, and his mother was feeding, and he counted the black-necked cranes on the side.

As Dong Yinglan grew older, his foot injuries were difficult to walk, and he gradually could not afford the work of a crane protector, in 2003, Zhao Bingxiang's wife Chen Guanghui officially took over the baton of guarding the black-necked crane. For nearly 20 years, she used her unique whistle to communicate with black-necked cranes, participated in the rescue of many black-necked cranes, and became their good friends.
"Now I'm also a crane keeper in the reserve." Zhao Bingxiang said that most of the local young adults went to work in the field, and after the older generation of crane protectors retired, he did not hesitate to take this position, "mainly like these plateau elves, and I want to protect them well in my lifetime."

In order to balance crane protection work and family, Zhao Bingxiang put his two-year-old son into the back basket of corn and followed him to feed the black-necked crane. "My son is happy every time he sees a flock of cranes, and dances with the black-necked cranes spreading their wings."
Zhao Bingxiang said, "Loving cranes and protecting cranes has become a part of our family's life, and we and the black-necked crane are also interdependent. I hope that the juniors can pass on the baton and be the guardians of the black-necked crane."

Like Li Dongwei, the members of the group are members of the militia anti-poaching patrol team of the Yanbian Prefecture District of Jilin Province in the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park, which is "biased towards tiger mountains."
The Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park, where they are located, is the only area on the mainland where wild Siberian tigers and leopards have settled and bred, and its eastern protective boundary overlaps with the borders of China, Russia and China and North Korea.
Here, it is necessary to guard the land under your feet and protect rare wild animals. There are four militia anti-poaching patrol teams, which are composed of militias in Hunchun City, Wangqing County Border Defense and ForestRy District, and Li Dongwei is the leader of one of the militia anti-poaching patrol teams.
On the more than 260-kilometer-long guard line, Li Dongwei patrols at least twice a month, and wading through mountains and rivers in the primeval forest is the norm. Over the past two years, the journey has reached more than 12,000 kilometers, nearly 1,000 pieces of poaching equipment have been cleared, more than 20 species of state-protected animals such as sika deer, original musk deer, and wild boar have been rescued, and there has not been a single major border-related case in the jurisdiction.

"As soon as I go out, I can't go home for several days, I am frozen outside in winter, and I am bitten by mosquitoes in summer." At first I didn't understand, but now I finally know that it makes sense for him to do it. Talking about Li Dongwei's work, his wife Wang Huixiao was a little distressed, but her face was full of pride.
Uphill patrol, personnel safety is very important. Before each departure, "mentor" Li Yibo has to give coaching and training to the team members, explaining in detail the activity rules and rescue methods of various wild animals. During the patrol, damaged border facilities were found, and Li Yibo had to locate them one by one on the map to verify and report them. Previously, he met the tiger down the mountain on the patrol road unexpectedly, and took the live video for the first time, but he did not expect to be on the "hot search" later. For a while, many people learned about the protection of wild animals by paying attention to the Siberian tiger, and when it came to this matter, Li Yibo was very happy.
In order to protect the Siberian tiger, advanced resources and equipment such as the sky eye system, migration path tracking, resource satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles have been used, and the "four-in-one" all-weather border patrol of the network, land, air and space ensures that the situation is known in time and jointly disposed of.

Red-crowned cranes are rare birds in the world, living for more than 70 years, and some even up to 90 years old. In Chinese folklore, it was introduced into the world of mythology and became a symbol of high purity. At present, there are only more than 2,700 wild red-crowned cranes in the world.
From February to April every year, wintering cranes migrate northward. Zhao Yongqiang ushered in the busiest season of the year. Zhao Yongqiang is a researcher at the Yancheng Wetland Rare Birds National Nature Reserve in Jiangsu Province. At this time, he had to chase the "wings" by footsteps, observing the life and migration of 418 species of birds such as red-crowned cranes on the 582-kilometer coastline of the entire reserve.

This was also Zhao Yongqiang's happiest time. He can observe the crane dance in a meticulous way. Cranes such as red-crowned cranes sometimes jump, sometimes spread their wings, sometimes hold their heads high, sometimes their tails, and dance gracefully, which is a must.
In fact, Zhao Yongqiang is the third generation of crane guards here.

The song "The Story of the Red-crowned Crane" has touched countless people. But what many people don't know is that the "girl" prototype in the song is sacrificed here.
After graduating from Northeast Forestry University in 1986, Xu Xiujuan, a Manchu girl, crossed 2,500 kilometers and sent three crane eggs to the reserve. In that year, Xu Xiujuan achieved the scientific research results of successful hatching and breeding of red-crowned cranes in wintering areas.
On September 16, 1987, in order to find the white swan lost in the heavy rain, Xu Xiujuan trekked in the reed depression for two consecutive days, and finally died of drowning due to physical weakness, and her beautiful life was forever fixed at the age of 23. Later, she was posthumously recognized by the former State Civil Affairs Bureau as the first environmental martyr on the mainland.
After the sacrifice of "red-crowned crane girl" Xu Xiujuan, Zhao Tong took over her post, and her son Zhao Yongqiang also came here to become the guardian of the red-crowned crane.
He spends a lot of time observing the red-crowned crane, adjusting his schedule with the red-crowned crane and "talking" to it in imitation of the red-crowned crane's chirp. Over time, the red-crowned crane also began to "circle" around Zhao Yongqiang. After some research, Zhao Yongqiang found that these actions showed that the red-crowned crane was in a very good mood and had accepted himself.
In 2008, Zhao Yongqiang's wife, Sun Xia, also came to work in the reserve. Since then, the family has taken root in the reserve. Most of the places here are dug up with "salty water", can only wash vegetables, wash clothes, living conditions are difficult, but every day listening to the clear crane chirping, Zhao Yongqiang feels "full of energy".
Now, the staff of the post-90s and post-00s have gradually become the main force of the reserve, and many volunteers of the Yancheng Youth League Municipal Committee have also joined in and become crane keepers. In daily patrol monitoring, it is common for them to walk 20 kilometers a day.
Thanks to the efforts of generations of crane keepers, so far, the 108 red-crowned cranes artificially bred in the reserve have established artificial populations, forming a species gene pool.
Letting more cranes dance along the coast of Yancheng has become a dream chased by generations of crane keepers.

In the cat ditch in the Qinghai area of Qilian Mountain National Park, stewards take pictures and record the carcass of a small rock sheep that has recently died.
Rock sheep are the snow leopard's most important prey. In recent years, with the increase of ecological protection and the reduction of hunters, the rock sheep that once ran when they saw people are now not very afraid of people, they have learned to "observe the color" and learn to wait and see.
"It is estimated that there must be more than 10,000 in total," said Han Lin, former secretary of the party branch in Guomi Village, Zamashi Township, Qilian County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Correspondingly, the number of snow leopards has also increased.
"There are 12 species of cats in the country, and we can see 5 species of snow leopards, lynx, ocelots, desert cats and rabbits in our oil gourd management area. This year, for the first time, our infrared cameras near the river beach captured four snow leopards in their company. Dekang, director of the oil gourd pipe protection station in Qinghai area, said proudly.
Currently, there are at least 105 snow leopards living here.

There are 40 standardized management and protection stations in the Qinghai area of Qilian Mountain National Park, with more than 1,000 ecological stewards. In one month, their total patrol mileage reached 133,000 kilometers, effective patrol mileage was 50,000 kilometers, and 2,500 patrol photos were uploaded.
Ecological stewards have become the backbone of the ecological protection of national parks. With their most sincere and simple love for their hometown, they guard every inch of land and every living creature in the national park, and they are the most lovely people.
