Today, FURIA CEO Messioso shared their concerns about the flaws in the RMR rules on Twitter (see for more details: FURIA CEO believes that the RMR rules are flawed and needs to be adjusted), and the organizer PGL has made some changes to the issue.
What is a Buchholtz system?
The Buchzi scoring system is used to sort teams with the same record based on a team's previous opponents (essentially a team's progression route difficulty). The Buchzi system has been used in some of Major's Swiss round stages in the past to determine the seeded teams that will advance to the knockout rounds, but it has never been used to determine the number of places major advances before.
Now, in addition to seeding team matchups between fixtures, the Buchzi system assigns a specific order to the top eight teams after the final round of the three RMR matches.
In some cases, this will determine who qualifies for the match directly in the Legendary stage in multiple draws, who only enters the match in the Challenger stage, and in other cases, decides whether a team will enter major or be eliminated.
For example, in the Americas, there will be 6 places to advance to Major, and two 3-0 teams will have a place in the Legend group and a place in the Challenger group. One of the three 3-2 teams will win the Legends group and the other two will be eliminated.
PGL and Valve have already solved one of these problems, creating a separate BO3 for teams 3-2 in the Americas, and the tournament will take place on April 15, the day after the swiss round ends. In addition, the Buchzi system is still used to determine the ranking of the top few in each division, and the first seed team will gain a certain advantage.
The organizers have not made changes in other areas, which means that the Buhertz system will continue to determine the grouping of RMR events in each major division. In this case, because it comes to who can enter the Legend group and who is only the challenger group, then the most noteworthy is the TEAM of RMR 3-0 in the Americas and the team of 3-1 in the European Zone.
