Eric Bergling's Bird Project

author:Late Lin Chenxi

Stockholm artist Eric Bergling spent 12 years traveling in cities around the world and pasted nearly 5,000 hand-painted natural-sized bird images on wheat.

"Each bird is placed in a carefully chosen location and subsequently documented by an artist whose primary medium is photography.

During the project, Berglin procured ornithology books from ancient bookshops and libraries. Their illustrations are scanned, edited and reprinted. Berglin spent countless hours with a scalpel and a pair of scissors, tracing the silhouettes of the birds to free them from their paper captivity. Every year, Bergling travels to a new city to work on his project. From start to finish, a total of 4,982 birds pasted wheat in 12 cities on five continents, including New York, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin and Reykjavik. ”
