The show ended its 11th season on April 11, 2021. Frank Gallagher (William H. Messi) was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus at a hospital and soon died on a ventilator – the scariest warning scene in the current pandemic. The character, who rarely wears a mask, was initially admitted to the hospital after exhibiting more severe symptoms of alcohol-related dementia and was suspected of attempting suicide by overdose.
At the time of his death, he imagined himself sitting in a chair in a hospital gown, standing on a roof, telling a letter full of "advice" that he had left for his family. In the end credits, his body is soaked with alcohol, cremated, and explodes.
Despite the fans' hopes, Amy Rosen, who left the show in season nine in 2019, did not return in the final season, instead continuing to play Frank's eldest daughter, Fiona Gallagher. However, her old footage is included in a brief family flashback of Frank's experience.
Aside from his final ascension to the throne, there's more to the finale: Lip (Jeremy Allen White) gets a proposal to sell the family property, hoping to start a new life with Tammy (Kate Miner), their son Freddie, and younger brother Liam (Christian Isaiah). Debs (Emma Kenney) plans to move to Texas with her daughter Francie (Paris Newton) and a new girlfriend. Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and Mitch (Noel Fisher) embraced their new Yuppyman lifestyle. Carl (Ethan Kutkowski) takes on a new position at the police station that allows him to keep his true self. Kevin (Steve Howey) and V (Sanora Hampton) plan to move to Kentucky.
One thing is well summed up: Lip was recognized for coming forward and doing something Frank had never done in the family.

When ABC decided it was time to end this family sitcom starring the puppet dinosaurs in the four seasons, the creators decided to use the most frustrating way through its protagonist, the Earl, the patriarch of the Sinclair family, to trigger a catastrophic extinction event that would not only kill every major character, but also make the entire species disappear.

Never before has the show's finale conveyed the idea more bluntly: "We love this character and may one day do more things with him."

This is an option.

In 1998, when NBC's iconic comedy stopped airing after nine seasons, the original co-producer, Larry David, returned to the set and really got a real sense of how much the show's four core characters had learned — and how bad they had always been. The stars of the parade cameo testified that all the terrible things that came upon them were the result of Jerry Seinfeld, Elaine (Julia LDC), George (Jason Alexander) and Kramer (Michael Richards) as extremely selfish and, in the end, a judge thrown in jail for an entire year. Fans are angry.
