Wu Hua before being injured

Hello everyone, I'm Lantai.

Today, Lantai wants to talk to you about comradeship.

Regarding the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, there are various statements on the Internet, and even some rumors slandering the People's Liberation Army.

But anyone who has read interviews with PLA veterans who fought in self-defense against Vietnam knows that those rumors are untenable.

Today, Lantai used the personal experience of Wu Hua, a veteran of the People's Liberation Army who stepped on a mine during the Laoshan Round war and led to a high degree of amputation, to refute the rumors that slandered the People's Liberation Army.

Wu Hua, a native of Kaili, Guizhou, joined the army in 1982. In 1984, he was wounded for the first time as a soldier of the main attack battalion of Laoshan of the 118th Regiment when he participated in the "4.28" retake of Laoshan and was awarded the third class merit. He accidentally stepped on a landmine during the retreat, resulting in a high amputation of both legs; he was a veritable combat hero.

In 2014, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the reconquest of Lao Shan, Wu Hua, as a veteran of the war against Vietnam, talked about many of his personal experiences at that time, which justifiably refuted the rumors that slandered the People's Liberation Army.

First of all, according to Wu Hua's personal experience, although before the war, as ordinary soldiers, they did not know that they were about to enter the war; but when it was time to go to the battlefield, none of the soldiers flinched.

Wu Hua told reporters that at that time, each company had to leave two or three soldiers in the rear to guard the barracks, but at least Wu Hua's company, no soldier was willing to stay in the safe rear to guard the barracks.

Wu Hua in an interview

Everyone feels that if they stay in the rear, how will they face their comrades who have fought on the battlefield in the future? How to meet people after retiring from the army in the future? Therefore, in Wu Hua's company, all the soldiers asked to go to the front line and were unwilling to stay and guard the barracks; even Wu Hua and other soldiers with good military skills signed up for the "death squad":

I didn't see anyone who didn't want to go to the front. Every company had to stay one or two people to see the barracks, and no one wanted to stay, they all thought they were leaving me in the barracks, so how would I meet people after I was discharged? Let me go to the front, even if it is sacrificed, anyway, the sacrifice is glorious. Most people have this idea, and some of our company even wrote suicide notes... Our company also gathered people with relatively good military skills and prepared to organize a death squad and directly insert it into the main peak of the old mountain, as long as the chance of survival was very slim, I also signed up at that time, but the death squad did not get approval from the superiors after it was reported.

Not only that, during the battle, Wu Hua also observed the charge, none of the warriors around him slowed down the pace of the charge, and all the fighters charged forward with their lives and deaths, hoping to destroy the enemy army as much as possible.

At the same time, Wu Hua also shared his experience of his first injury, telling reporters that during the battle, a shell exploded very close to him, and he did not feel that he was injured at all, and was ready to take a bundle of grenades (4) to blow up an enemy bunker that was a great threat to the PLA.

Still the platoon leader observed that Wu Hua's pale face was abnormal, let Wu Hua not be impulsive, first check his body, untie his clothes Wu Hua found that his waist and legs had three bean-sized holes, and the lining of his clothes and shoes were soaked with sweat and blood.

Battle of Lao Shan

In other words, Wu Hua's personal experience confirms that during the adrenaline rush, as long as they are not seriously injured, it is generally difficult for soldiers to feel pain after being injured.

Wu Hua could not have imagined that he was not seriously injured during the battle, but in the process of rescuing his comrades-in-arms, he accidentally took a step back to the side while carrying a stretcher, and as a result, he stepped on the mines planted by the Vietnamese army.

Regarding the injury that caused him to have his leg amputated high, Wu Hua acted very calmly, but said that he would certainly not be able to see his comrades stand idly by after stepping on the minefield:

We found Vietnamese activity below the position, and the company had to open a passage and set up a latent post below. Because the minefield below was called, the sappers were asked to open a passage, and the sappers were hit by mines, which he had entered in order to save him. It is impossible for my comrades to roll into the minefield when they are wounded.

Wu Hua stepped on the middle mine the next day and was sent to the General Hospital in Kunming for treatment, and at this time, Wu Hua's "third-class merit" was also approved, but at this time, Wu Hua proposed that he did not want "third-class merit".

Of course, Wu Hua did not think that the "third-class merit" was too small, but at that time, they had a total of seventeen martyrs who died in battle, but only four of them "made meritorious contributions", and the other thirteen martyrs did not "make meritorious contributions".

At that time, Wu Hua proposed to give up his "third-class merit" to those martyrs who did not have "meritorious service," so that "when the parents and brothers of the martyrs come to the army, at least they have a military merit badge in their hands, which is also a comfort to them." ”

What is a camaraderie?

A soldier like Wu Hua, who was seriously injured, wanted to give up his "third-class merit" to the martyrs who sacrificed himself, and this was the camaraderie of war.

Of course, in the end, Lian Li did not accept Wu Hua's "concession merit", and he still won the "third class merit".

In 2008, accompanied by his comrade-in-arms Tian Yingming, Wu Hua went to the Malipo Martyrs' Cemetery for the first time in more than 20 years to pay homage to 17 comrades-in-arms who were buried here. Wu Hua walked to their graves one by one, poured the wine of his hometown, and lit the cigarettes of his hometown.

Tribute to Wu Hua, who was a comrade-in-arms

In an interview in 2014, Wu Hua talked about the scene of the memorial to the heroic soul at that time, and could not help but cry:

As soon as I got there, the scene of that year seemed to still appear in front of me, and the voices of those comrades around me seemed to be echoing, and I always felt that the comrades who fell down one by one were next to me. Later, we went to the Malipo Martyrs' Cemetery to see our comrades-in-arms. No matter how strong this man was, when he got there, tears flowed.

At the end of the interview, Wu Hua told reporters, "As a soldier, when the country needs us, I must stand up, even if it is to pay with my own life and dedication, I myself am this kind of thinking." No matter how many people say what I do, I just think that since you choose to be a soldier, you must be responsible for the country. If when the war is fought, everyone retreats one by one, then there is still a country? Where is there no home without a country? That's what I thought anyway. I am also very optimistic, although I am crippled, but I do not regret, I am for the country, I feel proud of me, I am proud, the people of the country have not forgotten me. ”

What is a hero, Wu Hua is a hero.
