Consumers often pursue high power when purchasing fast chargers, but must high-power chargers be fast and safe? How do I choose the right fast charger? Recently, the Heilongjiang Consumers Association conducted a comparative test of 25 fast chargers of 19 mainstream brands, and the results showed that in addition to 1 sample with safety problems, other samples can achieve their declared and nominal performance, and consumers can buy and use with confidence.

The comparative test sample was randomly purchased by the staff of the Heilongjiang Consumer Association as an ordinary consumer on the e-commerce platform 25 fast charger products of 19 mainstream brands with large sales, each priced between 23.8 yuan and 148 yuan, and the fast charging power was concentrated in the two grades of 20W (including 22.5W) and 30W (including 33W) commonly used in mobile phones. The 25 fast chargers are all USB output interfaces, of which 14 are single Type-C interfaces, 3 are single USB-A interfaces, and 8 are Type-C and USBA dual interfaces.

This comparative test tested the safety indicators, energy efficiency indicators and quality indicators that consumers pay more attention to when purchasing.

1 sample safety index is not qualified

The comparative test results show that among the 25 fast charger samples, except for 1, which has abnormal thermal safety indicators that do not meet the standard requirements, the other samples have passed the relevant testing requirements.

Fast chargers are products that have passed the national mandatory CCC certification and must fully meet the relevant national standards. The safety test items of this test include six test items: marking and description, output power, heat generation, primary circuit overcurrent protection and short circuit protection, abnormal heat resistance, and electrical strength. After testing, 1 of the 25 fast chargers has a sample of abnormal heat resistance that does not meet the requirements of the standard, which is a fast charger with the nominal "MOVE SPEED Movement Speed". Abnormal heat resistance project is unqualified, in the extreme case of poor contact or abnormal heat, the plastic material supporting the plug part becomes soft, resulting in loose or even falling off metal plugs, and the plug part is easily touched by the user, thus causing the risk of electric shock, and even causing the product shell and socket to catch fire in serious cases.

The output power matches the nominal

The comparative test results show that the nominal maximum output power of the 25 fast charger samples meets and achieves normal operation, which can meet the requirements of the corresponding fast charging rate, and the consumer matches the corresponding charging line and mobile phone to meet the use of the fast charging function.

In addition, the fast charging protocols claimed to be supported by the 25 fast charger samples are all in line with and achieve normal operation, which is convenient for consumers to purchase.

The level of energy efficiency is high

The average efficiency of the 25 fast charger samples is more than 80%, the power conversion efficiency is high, and the average active power in the no-load state is less than 0.1W, which is equivalent to plugging in the socket without charging, and it cannot consume 1 kWh of electricity in 1 year. It can be seen that the overall energy efficiency level of the fast charger is high, which can save the user's cost of use.

● Consumption tips

Do not buy a "multi-purpose" socket

In addition to the safety problems of 1 sample in this comparative test, each sample can achieve its declared and nominal performance, and consumers can purchase and use it according to their mobile phone fast charging protocol, the power that needs to be charged, the preferred style, price point, etc. However, it is still important to note:

Purchase regular chargers with CCC certification marks through regular channels. The regular charger has Chinese Simplified product name, model, rated voltage or rated voltage range, the symbol of the nature of the power supply, the rated frequency or rated frequency range, the rated current, the manufacturer's name or trademark, the CCC certification symbol, the safety description, etc., and the handwriting of the logo is clear and not easy to erase. The logo of informal inferior chargers often does not use Chinese Simplified logo, impersonating imported products in English, the content of the logo is not standardized or lacks necessary information, and the printed handwriting is easy to blur.

The plug of the regular charger should conform to the style specified by the national standard GB/T1002-2008, that is, the thin sheet plug (cannot be cylindrical, square column and other forms). At the same time, the plug should not have a round hole and should not be in the shape of an "eight".

When consumers choose to purchase fast charging products, they need to understand the fast charging protocol of the charged device and choose the product that supports the corresponding protocol. The protocols supported by the fast charger are generally described in the product page description or product packaging instructions. If it is not described in detail, please purchase with caution.

In the process of using the charger, care should be taken not to expose the charger to a humid environment for a long time, nor to use wet hands to plug and unplug the charger, moisture will cause different degrees of corrosion or oxidation to its internal electronic components, and even short circuit failure when used, causing electric shock or fire; for the charger that has been dropped inside, try not to continue to use, the internal components of this charger appear loose, easy to cause circuit short circuit fault to cause electric shock or fire; after charging is completed, The charger should be unplugged in time; use an outlet that meets national standards, if you use a non-national standard "universal" socket, it is easy to cause poor plug contact, abnormal heat and even cause fire.
