Shanghai artist Ma Liang
A native of Shanghai, Ma Liang crosses the boundaries of video, literature and drama. From the photographic works "The Postman" and "Flowers on the Other Side" to the art project "Mobile Photo Studio", the essay collection "Confession Book" and "Undercover in The World", from the stage play "Daddy's Time Machine" to the theatrical documentary "Time Machine", the city of Shanghai has given him a variety of development possibilities.
Today, let us follow Ma Liang's lens, pursue the childhood memories that are reluctant to be discarded, and understand that life is also art in Shanghai.
Shanghai of life: Zhang Yuan
Zhangyuan was founded in 1882 and is the largest mid-to-late Shikumen complex in Shanghai, where Ma Liang spent his childhood, walking the streets and alleys, laughing and playing.
The photographic work "The Postman" is based on such childhood memories. In my memory, the postman was always in a hurry, so when I was a child, I didn't like these uninvited guests who shuttled between alleys. However, when I grew up, I found that the postman was a kind of emotional link, and the letter, as the most commonly used means of communication at that time, carried the expectations of countless people, and it was a kind of touching to see the words.
