The series After Dark is a creation by Japanese artist Keita Morimoto based on the light source of the night in modern society, and he created his own unique style.
At the age of 16, Keita Morimoto moved to Canada, where he began to study painting techniques. At the end of 2021, he had his first solo exhibition in Japan, After Dark, which was exhibited at the KOTARO NUKAGA Gallery, where he presented a series of paintings on the theme of light sources in Tokyo and the city after dark. The contents include street lights, vending machines, lightbox signs in shops and parking lots, and more, showing the world the familiar daily scenery of the 21st century.
He deliberately excludes highly recognizable symbols, showing only the urban appearance that everyone has become accustomed to, but it can make people feel déjà vu. For example, the brightly lit corner of the area, the sparsely populated tram stop, and the hills overlooking the whole town, although these scenes do not have a special meaning, but through his brush, with the contrast of light and darkness, he adds a mysterious and fantastic color to the ordinary daily field. Keita Morimoto's After Dark series, the paintings form a magical charm with the contrast between Tokyo and light after nightfall.
