The cause of feline stomatitis is currently unknown, foreign clinical studies believe that the cause of feline stomatitis may be immune-mediated, or it may be induced by some pathogenic viruses or bacteria. Studies in recent years have suggested that stomatitis in cats is a chronic infection of cat calicivirus, which occurs under the combined effects of low immunity in cats. But it's not very clear, and these just seem to have a large correlation.
How to tell if a cat has stomatitis:
1. The scope of inflammation extends beyond the gums (gingiva) and spreads to the alveolar mucosa and even the labial mucosa, which is stomatitis. This is alveolar mucositis or classified as Rostral Stomatitis.
2. Inflammation and pebble hyperplasia near the oropharyngeal side to the palatal tongue arch, which is called Caudal Stomatitis, which is the basis for clinical diagnosis, and if it is present, it must be stomatitis. This is the most difficult to treat, the easiest to recur and the most common form of stomatitis.
One of the two satisfies stomatitis. If none of the above criteria are met, it is not stomatitis. The diagnosis of stomatitis generally relies on visual vision, and if there is a strange mass or hyperplasia, a sample examination is taken to check the tumor.
Symptoms of feline stomatitis:

3. Cry out while eating, or even avoid eating
4. Weight loss
Current treatments include medication and tooth extraction. Drug therapy is mainly based on chlorhexidine cleaning, combined with antibiotics and hormone therapy. According to the severity of stomatitis, it can be divided into short-term treatment and long-term treatment.
In short-term treatment, the use of hormones is the most effective, such as methylprednisolone, prednisolone, etc. In long-term treatment, due to the variety of clinical manifestations, there is no most effective method among various treatment methods.
Removal of the premolars and molars is an effective treatment for most refractory stomatitis. More than 80% of cats have improved quality of life (some cats require full mouth extraction).
