Perhaps few people know that the elephant, the largest mammal on land, has a bunch of small relatives, the African hoofed rabbit (also known as the hoofed rabbit)!

Cute hoofed rabbit

It is a small, rounded mammal that resembles rodents and at first glance resembles a large mouse.

There are 11 species of African hoofed rabbits, belonging to three genera – rock-hoofed rabbit, jungle hoofed rabbit and tree-hoofed rabbit. They secrete sweat on their feet, which facilitates their grip and climbing.

Hoofed rabbits living in temperate zones have shorter hair, while those living in mountainous areas have dense, soft hair. All species of hoofed rabbits are herbivores, and they live in trees and rocks. Several of these hoofed rabbits, such as the bruce maculata (see image below), live in groups in rock formations that are exposed to the ground.

Male hoofed rabbits living in their territory dominate several female hoofed rabbits, young rabbits, and some adult male rabbits that do not pose a threat to themselves. Although they are cute, they become aggressive during the breeding season.
