When he was nearly eighty years old, he stepped down as president and did not even want a pension. When Mujica was president, he lived not in the lavish presidential palace, but in the tattered slab houses of the suburban farms, where there was a narrow dirt road where he had to do everything himself, whether it was farming or cooking or other things, and there were only two policemen and a dog standing guard in front of the door.
The owner of the farm is still Mujica's wife, the frugal president is arguably the world's poorest president, he can get more than ten thousand dollars a month in salary, but only leave more than a thousand for himself, for uruguay's development can be said to have made the greatest contribution. He had a Volkswagen Beetle that had been driving for decades and had become an old car, but it was the equivalent of all his belongings, and there were many people who wanted to buy it from him at a high price, but he didn't agree.
