Nicolai has a comprehensive background in livestock management and research on porcine intestinal diseases, having worked as a swine veterinary practitioner in the Danish pig industry and as a researcher at the University of Copenhagen. In 2017, Nicolai completed his doctoral thesis "Complexity of intestinal diseases in nursery pigs, with a special focus on the cautious use of antimicrobials". Nicolai is a senior specialist at the SEGES Danish Swine Research Centre, whose main research topics are the discreet use of antimicrobials and alternatives to zinc oxide. A collaborative project with Danish swine veterinary practitioners is currently under way to gather knowledge and field experience on practical methods of not using high levels of feed zinc oxide and low antimicrobials in the rearing of weaned piglets.

Dr. Peter Kappel Theil is a professor in the Department of Molecular Nutrition and Reproduction at Aarhus University in Denmark, where he focuses on the field of sow nutrition and physiology, including the quantitative metabolism of energy and nutrients in sows and piglets at the beginning, during and after lactation, as well as the regulation of breast and muscle growth. Experiments include cage collection experiments, calorific measurements and telemetry in respiratory chambers, estimation of milk intake using isotopes, milk production and calorific production, and quantification of gene and protein expression.

Dr. Chris Chase is a professor in the Department of Veterinary Sciences at South Dakota State University (Brooking). He is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Microbiology (Virology/Immunology). Dr. Chase's research and diagnostic interests include immunology, respiratory disease pathogenesis, emerging diseases in contact with wildlife, and vaccine development. He is a past chair of the American College of Veterinary Microbiology and a former chair of the Disease Workers Symposium on Animal Disease Research. Dr. Chase co-authored the immunology chapter in the latest edition of Swine Disease.
