China's Bohai Sea has made another 100 million tons of oil and gas discoveries

China's network on September 30 (reporter Grey) today, China National Offshore Oil Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CNOOC) announced that China's Bohai Sea has obtained another large-scale oil and gas discovery - Kenli 10-2 oilfield. After the approval of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the proven geological reserves of crude oil exceed 100 million tons, which further consolidates the foundation of China's offshore oil and gas resource reserves, and is of great significance to the stable production of offshore oil and gas fields and the guarantee of national energy security.

Kenli 10-2 Oilfield is located in the southern bohai Sea, about 245 kilometers away from Tianjin City, with an average water depth of about 15.7 meters, and it was found that the Kenli 10-2-4 well had a total of 27 meters of oil formation and a completion depth of 1520 meters. After testing, the oil field can produce up to 81.55 tons of crude oil per day per day.

Xu Changgui, general manager of CNOOC Exploration Department, said that the successful discovery of Kenli 10-2 oilfield has broken the situation that the shallow layer of the depression zone of Bohai Oilfield has never been discovered in a 100-million-ton lithological oilfield, demonstrated the broad prospects of exploration of lithological oil and gas reservoirs in the Bohai Sea, and has important guiding significance for the exploration of similar basins.

Following the discovery of the Kenli 600-100 million tons oilfield in early 2020, CNOOC explorers learned from successful experience and quickly evaluated the Kenli 10-2 structure on the south side of the Kenli 6-1 oilfield.

Kenli 10-2 structure is located in the Laizhou Bay Depression of Bohai Sea, which has experienced more than 40 years of exploration, making it increasingly difficult to explore tectonic reservoirs, and the scale of the reservoirs found is getting smaller and smaller, with no commercial value. At the same time, according to the traditional understanding, the shallow and deep strata of the Laizhou Bay Depression are rich in mud deposits, and the oil and gas in the deep underground are blocked by different lithological strata, just like "covering many layers of thick quilts", which cannot be transported to the shallow layers.

In the face of many unfavorable factors, based on solid basic research, the explorers boldly innovated exploration ideas and proposed a new model of reservoir formation in the newly recent lithological reservoirs. Under the guidance of new ideas, the prospectors gradually found out the enrichment law and exploration direction of oil and gas reservoirs. After a year of evaluation, a large lithological oil and gas reservoir, Kenli 10-2 Oilfield, was successfully discovered in the shallow layer of the Laizhou Bay Depression.

Xu Changgui introduced that kenli 10-2 oilfield has kenli 10-1, kenli 10-4 and other production oilfields around the area, development facilities are relatively complete, is expected to be fully produced in 2025, to help bohai oilfield production of 40 million tons.

Bohai Oilfield is the main battlefield for increasing domestic offshore oil and gas reserves and production. In recent years, CNOOC has unswervingly promoted the "seven-year action plan" for increasing reserves and production, in the face of complex geological structures, continuously strengthened geological understanding and innovation and exploration technology to tackle tough problems, overcome a number of exploration problems such as large-scale vitality and potential mountains in oil-type basins, and in just two years, in just two years, it has successively won a series of major oil and gas discoveries such as 19-6 in bohai, 6-1 in 100-million-ton oilfield reclamation, and 13-2 in Bozhong, and maintained a strong momentum of increasing reserves and stable production. Since 2018, the Bohai Sea oilfield has accumulated nearly 800 million tons of proven oil and gas reserves.

Wang Dongjin, secretary of the party group and chairman of CNOOC, said that the discovery of Kenli 10-2 oilfield is another important result of CNOOC's continuous increase in domestic oil and gas exploration and development, and has implemented a reserve base for the Bohai Sea oilfield to produce 40 million tons. CNOOC will firmly grasp the leading role of oil and gas exploration, with the goal of discovering large and medium-sized oil and gas fields, continue to deepen geological understanding and technological innovation, strive to be the main force in increasing domestic oil and gas reserves and production, and contribute to the realization of the good start of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the promotion of high-quality development of the offshore oil industry.
