The 27th Group Army has a brilliant military history, the predecessor can be traced back to the Eighth Route Army unit of the Jiaodong Military Region during the War of Resistance Against Japan, and in March 1947 it was reorganized into the 9th Column of the East China Field Army, and the first commander Xu Shiyou. In February 1949, the 9th Column was reorganized into the 27th Army, and the first commander, Nie Fengzhi, was subordinate to the Sanye Ninth Corps.
In 1985, the 27th Army was reorganized into the 27th Group Army, with Qian Guoliang as the first commander, partnered by Xu Yongqing, a political commissar who was later promoted to general of the Armed Police. Both enlisted in the 27th Army, participated in the 1987 Battle of the Two Mountains, and were both promoted to general. What are their legendary experiences?
Qian Guoliang: To be a soldier is to be the best soldier
Qian Guoliang was born in January 1940 to a peasant family in Qingyun Township, Wujiang, Jiangsu Province. From an early age, he was very smart and liked to study, but due to his family's poverty, his parents could no longer afford to pay the tuition at the age of 14, so he had to drop out of school and go home, giving up his dream of entering the university and becoming an accountant in the village.
At this time, although Qian Guoliang was young, he was already very assertive. At that time, rural children generally had two ways to change their destiny. One is to go to school, and the other is to be a soldier. Since he could not succeed in his studies, it further strengthened Qian Guoliang's determination to become a soldier.
In December 1958, Qian Guoliang joined the army with more than 600 outstanding young people in the county. Before he left, an elder of the family said to him in a serious voice, "You must be a soldier, and you must be a good commander!" This sentence also confirms Qian Guoliang's life.
Qian Guoliang, 18, became a recruit in the 238th Regiment of the 80th Division of the 27th Army. Although the training of the recruit company is very hard, Qian Guoliang is determined to become the best soldier and to make a career in the army. After 2 years as a soldier, he joined the party, was promoted to the rank of squad leader of the 27th Army's surveying and mapping team, and accompanied the troops to the southeast coastal area of Zhejiang to carry out emergency combat readiness tasks.
Due to his excellent military and political qualities, Qian Guoliang tigan served as the platoon commander of the 1st company of the 238th Regiment, and since then, step by step, he has held almost every post that a military commander should go through. He successively served as the staff officer of the 80th Division Training Section, the commander of the 239th Regiment, the commander of the 80th Division, and the chief of staff of the 27th Army. In July 1985, at the age of 45, he became the first commander of the 27th Army.
Xu Yongqing: It took 4 years from the deputy division post to the main military post
In July 1985, when Qian Guoliang was appointed military commander, Xu Yongqing also became the first political commissar of the 27th Group Army. The two had similar growth experiences in the 27th Army, except that Xu Yongqing had been in the 79th Division and Qian Guoliang was in the 80th Division.
Xu Yongqing was born in August 1938 in Jiande, Zhejiang. He experienced the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation in his childhood and adolescence, and Xu Yongqing understood the preciousness of peace even more. In November 1954, after graduating from school at the age of 16, xu Yongqing successively served as a credit social accountant, township government clerk, and county people's government office archivist due to his high level of education in the township.
In December 1956, Xu Yongqing gave up a stable county government job and joined the army at the age of 18 to join the radio company of the communications battalion of the 79th Division of the 27th Army. At that time, the communications profession was regarded as a high-tech professional in the army, Xu Yongqing was both literate and reasonable, and he also engaged in clerical work in counties and townships, and soon came to prominence in the company, successively serving as a company clerk, a battalion headquarters clerk, and a division headquarters secrecy officer.
The excellent performance was quickly recognized by the organization, and Xu Yongqing Tigan served as the deputy political instructor of the radio company of the communication battalion, and since then, the military has been engaged in political work posts all his life, and the compound political work experience of the organs and the grass-roots level is rich. He successively served as a cable instructor, the chief of the propaganda unit of the 236th Regiment, the chief of the Secretarial Section of the Political Department of the 79th Division, and the political commissar of the 236th Regiment.
In 1982, at the age of 42, Xu Yongqing became the director of the political department of the 80th Division, and Qian Guoliang was the commander of the 80th Division and was his superior. However, in the following three years, Xu Yongqing's post was promoted into the fast lane, and he was promoted to a post every year, serving as the commissioner of the 27th Military Discipline Inspection Commission in 1983, the deputy political commissar of the 27th Army in 1984, the political commissar of the 27th Group Army in 1985, and the promotion from the deputy division to the main military position in 4 years.
The two men led the 27th Army to participate in the Battle of the Two Mountains
In 1986, the Beijing Military Region participated in the Battle of the Two Mountains, with 33,700 troops including the 27th Group Army led by Qian Guoliang and Xu Yongqing. In September of that year, wenshan prefecture and Yanshan county in Yunnan province entered the Chengdu theater to carry out combat training and adapt to the terrain and climate of the Sino-Vietnamese border area.

After more than half a year of training, at the end of April 1987, he officially took over the defense of the 47th Group Army of the Lanzhou Military Region. In response to the small-scale serious attack of the Vietnamese army, the two commanded the 27th Army to carry out eight large-scale artillery counterattacks, pouring 41,000 shells into the Vietnamese positions, killing and wounding more than 3,300 Vietnamese troops, and dealing a heavy blow to the arrogance of the Vietnamese army. After the end of the one-year round war mission, the 27th Group Army was awarded the honorary title of "Civilized Division and Victorious Division" by the Central Military Commission.
After the end of the round battle, in December 1993, the 53-year-old Qian Guoliang crossed the military region to serve as the chief of staff of the Jinan Military Region, and in November 1996, at the age of 56, he was appointed commander of the Jinan Military Region.
Xu Yongqing was transferred to the political commissar of the Zhejiang Provincial Military Region in August 1988, and in December 1994, he was promoted to deputy political commissar of the Lanzhou Military Region. In February 1996, he served as the political commissar of the Armed Police Force, then served for seven years, in 2000 he was awarded the rank of general, and retired in December 2003. Qian Guoliang was again appointed commander of the Shenyang Military Region in December 1999, was awarded general in 2002, and retired in December 2004.
