According to the statement of the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, the punishment imposed on Sun Yang by the Court of Arbitration for Sport did not violate the basic principle of public order, sun Yang's own right to make representations was not infringed in any way, and in this case, Sun Yang had no reason to appeal further.
Sun Yang's doping case began in 2018, and during an off-game routine inspection, the test was ultimately not completed due to doubts about the qualifications of the inspectors. In January 2019, FINA declared the test results invalid and Sun Yang would not be punished in any way. However, the World Anti-Doping Organization has since complained about the ruling and appealed to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport.
On February 28, 2020, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced the outcome of the previous first-instance arbitration in the world anti-doping agency (WADA) v. Chinese swimmer Sun Yang and the International Fina Federation (FINA), and sun Yang will be banned for eight years from February 28, 2020.
On the same day, Sun Yang said that he did not obey the judgment and decided to appeal to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. In December of the same year, the Supreme Court decided to set aside the previous ruling of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport. In June 2021, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport announced that Sun Yang's ban period was reduced from 8 years to 4 years and 3 months.
According to the current suspension period, Sun Yang can end the ban at the end of May 2024, which makes it theoretically possible for him to participate in the Paris Olympic Games. However, considering Sun Yang's state and his previous stains, the possibility of him playing in the Olympics for his country again is almost zero.
