Collection 1 Q: What is the most attractive thing about flower and bird painting?

Chen Mengxi: Flowers and birds are around us, it is the most vital thing, and its vitality and aura bring a lot of nourishment to people. Even if we don't go to nature, we want to have a pot of flowers or other plants around us at home, so that we can feel the temperature of nature. Flower and bird painting records the instantaneous feelings in life, and refines and creates what we think is beautiful, which is a condensation of nature. It was so close to life that it was imaginative.

Collection 1 Q: How was the series of works "Menglun Xia Dream" created?

Chen Mengxi: The series of long and long compositional works of "Menglun Summer Dream" records the scene I saw while walking in the Xishuangbanna rainforest. There are few tropical rainforest themes in traditional Chinese paintings, and more are mainly plants common in the north and south. I grew up in the north, and when I went to the rainforest, I would feel that the scene there was very shocking, and its shock made me feel that the technical language I had learned had a certain constraint on my creation. In this regard, I thought about how to break through this shackle and re-express this subject. That's why I first started creating these subjects.

How to fit this theme and express the dense colors and tall and lush plants of that time? I combed along the development of Chinese painting, taking Yun Shouping's boneless flower as the starting point, from his boneless to Xu Chongsi's initial formation technique, and then to the late Qing Dynasty Erju extended Yun's boneless method, and many painters of the Lingnan School pushed this technique to a peak. I tried this technique that is different from the traditional flower and bird painting in three alum and nine dyes, and integrated my own understanding, integrating the use of color relationships into the picture, and trying to create a state that is more in line with the theme of tropical plants.

Collection 1 Q: Is the color of the work in "Menglun Summer Dream - Passionflower" a natural color?

Chen Mengxi: Its color is not the color of primitive nature in nature, but the color of the soul. We always feel the world through our hearts. My first idea was to see the shadows of passionflowers under a long corridor of moonlit nights. When I sat quietly under the long corridor and looked at it, I saw no longer just the flower itself, but the whole sky, the whole moon night, and the passionflower at this time was like a round of the moon in the universe, silver and white and confused. This color shocked me very strongly, in a piece of passionflower, especially beautiful, I want to use the painting to express this feeling, I want to apply the soul's refinement of color at this time to the picture. The flowers in this painting are more like the moon, and the buds, branches, leaves, and vines are all setting off the beauty of the flowers, just like the night is setting off the moon. From the perspective of looking at the painting, the abstract stars in the painting are also to set off the picture, looking like some stars, setting off the moon and the night and shining.

Collection 1 Q: What was the inspiration for the work "Towards the Twilight"?

Chen Mengxi: "Chao Xi Twilight" is a work created by me in Xishuangbanna. I walked into a village with a big flame tree at the door. It is like an old man, like a person who has been standing there for a long time, in such a situation with the sun and the moon, and with all the people, things, and things in this village. Standing under such a flower tree, it was as if I heard someone making a wish under the Bodhi tree, telling about the twilight of the morning. The feeling of this moment is particularly memorable, it has touched me very much and given me a lot of inspiration. It feels like time condenses in this tree, and time flows on this remote land.

Collection 1 Q: In what direction will the future of creation shift?

Chen Mengxi: In the future, my flower and bird painting creation will still be in a positive and positive state of understanding of life, and I will express the experience in my life in flower and bird painting and excavate the unique points in life.

Each age has a unique form, and each age has its way of facing the world. The perceived society, the world I see, and the state I experience at my current age are irreplaceable by other ages. In the future, with the change of age and experience, as well as the way I yearn for the world, and the different understandings of things, I should have other ideas and perceptions. My creations not only have the dreamy, upward, and beautiful state that I want to express now, but also integrate fresh ideas in the future, which will change with the continuation of life and the accumulation of experience. I will also integrate different feelings into my creations, so that the creation will continue with the progress of life.
