On February 24, 2022, reading the article forwarded by Major General Zhang Peifang, former chief of the Political Department of the 15th Railway Corps, Ji Jingnan, I was overwhelmed with emotion, and my mind immediately came up with a picture of the scene of the barracks life in those years, like a set of wonderful comic strips.
I wanted to write a short essay to express my thoughts and respect for Zhang Peifang, and at the same time my praise for her beautiful publication, so I wrote this humble article overnight.
The late spring of 1973 is forty-nine years away, which is a long time ago. At that time, after my new training, I was assigned to the Fourteenth Battalion and Nineteenth Company, and soon after I was assigned to the Company Headquarters as a statistician. When I first arrived at the company, everything was very fresh, the company of more than two hundred people, after the rapid whistle every morning, the morning exercise queue was neat, the pace was sonorous, and a heroic emotion suddenly emerged. A day of life, learning and training, construction operations are full of new atmosphere. Our company is stationed in Chongwenmen, in a bustling area of the city. The New Overseas Chinese Hotel rises tall to welcome international guests and traffic. The camp is adjacent to Qianmen Street, and the bus vehicles shuttle day and night, a bustling scene. Metro Chongwenmen Station stands on the right side of the camp gate. As if it were a special sign for us, tell people passing by, look! It is the symbol of this barracks.
In early summer, the higher authorities sent a handsome and handsome cadre, his tall figure, beautiful face, and bright eyes full of vitality and hope. The green military uniform, the red hat badge, and the red collar badge show his masculinity from the inside out. He was Zhang Peifang, a propaganda officer in the regiment's political office.
The company commander told us that he was an organ cadre sent by the regimental headquarters to the grass-roots level to study and train on temporary duty. Everyone should care about him, support him, respect him, and learn from him. He ate and lived with us, was very humble and kind, and the company's activities were very proactive. Lead the team out of work, dust and servants, come back from work and talk and laugh with everyone, much like friends, but also like family, more like brothers.
His job is propaganda. Maybe it is also a mission to come down, as soon as there is free time to collect material information in all aspects, at night buried in the writing of articles. He is said to be a correspondent for the Soldier's Newspaper, and several articles reflecting the combat life of the troops are published in the newspaper every year.
When he first arrived at the company, we both saw each other as usual, talked about the world very closely, or it may be because of the work of the division, whenever I make a construction plan, write a project summary report, I am willing to ask him for advice. He also listened very patiently and expressed his opinion. Sometimes he pulls out his pocket notebook to record something.
When he talked to me, he knew my interests and hobbies, often encouraged me to engage in small writing, and hoped that I would learn to write newsletters and teach me writing skills and methods, but I knew that my level was low, I was always worried, did not let go of his hands and feet, failed his good intentions, and achieved nothing.
Once, when the regimental propaganda unit was tasked with collecting poetry manuscripts and including me in the creative study class, I took the liberty of writing a submission and was really selected. Officer Li helped me to repeatedly discuss and finalize the draft, which was published in the briefing of the Regiment's Political Office, and then submitted my manuscript to the People's Liberation Army Literary and Art Society. That time made me very comfortable, and even I felt a little fluttery. I think this attempt may be related to Zhang Peifang's influence and influence.
Soon after he was suspended from his post in the Nineteenth Company, he was ordered to return to work in the organs. Later, it was learned that he had been transferred from the regimental organ to the division organ. I also left the company shortly after to go to the fourth battalion headquarters and other departments and units. After the collective reorganization of the troops, I transferred to local work, and we lost our voice for decades.
My time with him was short, but I had a deep affection for each other and had a good impression. Last year, I had the honor to join the "15th Railway Corps Division" and the "Huifeng Hechang (71st Regiment)" comrades-in-arms group, and I was overjoyed to meet him in the WeChat delivery. The best friends who have been separated for many years get together again through new scientific and technological means, ask for warmth, and a warm current comes to the heart.
What moved me even more was that he could identify me from his WeChat avatar (my WeChat name was not marked with a name), and he could still remember my name. It shows that his love is as deep as the sea, and his friendship is in his heart.
