Chengdu, the country of Tianfu, has a 4500-year history of civilization and a 2300-year history of city building. In the 13th century, Marco Polo's footprints came to Chengdu Province, and the Covered Bridge, Jinjiang, and Shubu became a strong stroke of his travels. In recent years, under the background of the strategic deployment of the "Belt and Road", the planning and operation of Chengdu Tianfu Cultural and Creative City has emerged, and the China-Italy Cultural Exchange Center is an important part of the construction of a platform for cultural exchanges and civilization exchanges between the two countries. The project is located on the north side of Wenchuang 10 Road, about 36 kilometers away from the center of Chengdu, close to Tianfu Avenue, and the exhibition hall platform can look at the creative group project on the east side and the natural landscape of Yanqi Wetland.

The architect hopes to find the intersection of the two in the form of cultural differences between China and the West: the design elements are extracted from the "Ruyi" that China has used since ancient times to give gifts to foreign envoys, in order to show the conclusion of friendly relations and imply the peace and security of the two countries. The Italian Pavilion draws inspiration from Italy's most iconic squares to create an urban art living room. Extract the design elements from the arches and domes of ancient Rome, and use multiple circular squares to enclose and connect them into a rich and varied space with smooth circulation lines to meet the multi-functional requirements of exhibitions, conferences, receptions, and catering.

The walls are made of pure white throughout, and the building is illuminated in the sun, which is illuminated with the effect of three-dimensional light and shadow. The large area of glass allows the interior space to extend outward infinitely, forming a dynamic mural of the four seasons with the outside. Through the change of wall materials, the designer breaks the boundaries of indoor and outdoor spaces and integrates with the surrounding natural environment. The harmony and unity of architecture and nature lies in the use of natural resources and the protection of the natural environment. Both sides of the pavilion are designed with top lighting, so that the light is evenly distributed indoors and outdoors. Building materials such as low-e glass, local wood, roof greenery, etc. reduce building energy consumption and achieve sustainable construction.

With the exhibition hall as the core, the surrounding ecological forest is connected. Circular spaces are divided into two forms: indoor and square. The fountain square at the entrance is surrounded by 3 outdoor semicircles, while the Piazza italia is surrounded by roman arch ruins, and the square and the outdoor theater reproduce the typical Italian city square form. Walk through the cornice to the Piazza d'Italie, and ascend the curved staircase to reach the two circular gardens on the roof, which complement each other through the contrast of natural vegetation and stone. Descend from the roof through the cultural corridor, or step over the White Jade Buting above the pond to reach the Chinese Culture Center on the east side. The two paths symbolize the Silk Road, between East and West, on land and over water.

In terms of space planning, the designers reserved the maximum flexibility for the exhibition display, and the staggered height of the building allowed visitors to stand at different heights to view different views. The indoor space uses 10 circular walls of different sizes to create a smooth moving line, in addition to the circular solid wall, the indoor and outdoor boundaries are high glass, forming a unified indoor and outdoor vision, and the outdoor landscape can be used as part of the exhibition.

The three circular spaces in the room are the reception hall, the multi-function hall and the multimedia exhibition hall, which are arranged around the central exhibition hall, and the water features and sculptures are set around the living room. In addition, the lighting and atmosphere of the space are mastered through the opening of the wall.
